Analyst, Discretionary Middle Office
The analyst on Man Group’s Middle Office team supports asset managers in monitoring and analyzing fund gains and losses and is responsible for calculating the net asset value (NAV) of funds. The role also involves communicating with external partners, preparing reports, and monitoring processes and systems.
Tasks
The Middle Office team is responsible for:- Back Office
- NAV (Net Asset Value) Calculations
- Fee structuring
- Performance and Portfolio/PnL/P&L Structures
- Trading levels and risk thresholds
Responsibilities
- Use of company systems and other tools (Bloomberg, vendor data, etc.) to monitor and analyze daily fund gains and losses across asset classes in order to support reporting to asset managers
- Calculation of the net asset value (NAV) of funds on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, including the review of accrued income and expenses
- Communicating with fund operators to provide resources and deliver reports to asset managers, including highlighting currency hedges
- Review of foreign exchange exposures and reporting to asset managers
- Reconciliation of transactions between custodians, prime brokers, and the investment engine’s internal records, and investigation/escalation of system failures
- Providing ad hoc reports to asset managers and senior management on performance and historical analysis
- Holding meetings with administrators and counterparties
- Ensuring the quality and effectiveness of pricing governance and controls
- Updating documentation, policies, and procedures
- Maintaining an up-to-date understanding of securities prices across the entire company
- Reviewing existing systems, processes, and procedures to identify areas for potential improvement
- Collaborating with the middle-office team on broader initiatives, such as trading system improvements and regulatory changes
- Monitoring and Oversight of Service Providers
Requirements
- Excellent numerical skills
- Experience in the financial sector, typically at an investment bank or an asset management firm
- A solid understanding of financial transactions
- Ability to create evaluation models
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- A strong academic background, preferably in a quantitative/analytical field (mathematics, finance, accounting, physics, engineering, computer science, or a related field)
- Basic programming skills with enthusiasm to develop technical abilities
- Previous experience in the financial services industry, preferably with professional qualifications (e.g., CIMA)
