Analyst. US Middle Office

An Analyst in Man Group's US Middle Office team in Boston, Massachusetts, is responsible for operational processes such as daily NAV calculations, security assessments and performance attribution. The Analyst works closely with various teams to improve processes and support new projects.

About the role

This role is in the Numeric Middle Office Team. The Middle Office Team is responsible for the calculation of security prices, the calculation of Net Asset Value (NAV), the distribution of NAV and the allocation of benefits.

Tasks

  • Core Operations:
    • Reconciliation of valuations between custodian banks, prime brokers and internal investment engine records, coordination of investigations and/or corrections of breakpoints if required
    • Daily, weekly and monthly communication with the Investment Management and Hedge Fund Middle Office team, review of accrued income and expenses
    • Delivery of intra-NAV estimates to the asset management team, if required
    • Collaboration with various internal teams and databases to deliver reports and analysis
    • Support the team in the execution and ongoing functioning of processes according to established procedures
    • Daily review of P&L and other available data to identify trends and loss accounts across asset classes
    • Provide input to asset managers and senior management on performance and historical trading analysis
    • Assisting in the development and improvement of operational processes for 4G Act funds, including regulatory reporting, daily reconciliations and ongoing compliance tasks
  • Technical Development:
    • Contribution to the continuous improvement of systems, controls and workflows
    • Learning and using programming tools to improve team processes and reporting
  • Stakeholder engagement:
    • Collaboration with team members and other departments in daily activities and long-term projects
    • Clear communication and recommendations to various interest groups
  • Professional Development:
    • Use of training opportunities in technical and financial topics
    • Develop an understanding of investment operations, market infrastructure and fund structures
    • Active role in identifying and implementing opportunities for process improvement and operational efficiency
    • Participation in the knowledge transfer and best practices of the team

Requirements

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Strong technical skills and experience with Python
  • Strong analytical mind with the ability to solve complex problems
  • Strong attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence to present to senior stakeholders
  • Proven ability to learn new concepts quickly
  • Strong drive: background in a quantitative or analytical field (mathematics, physics, engineering, computer science or data finance-oriented disciplines)
  • Physics, engineering, math or related field; and motivation to build a career in the industry
  • Familiarity with GSI/Bloomberg or other vendor systems

  • Professional qualifications (CFA, CFP) or proof of relevant trends
  • Python programming (for similar languages), SQL or database experience with enthusiasm to develop technical skills
