Job description: Analyst US Middle Office

About the role

This role is in the Numeric Middle Office Team. The Middle Office team is responsible for security valuations (NAV) calculations, net asset value (NAV) calculations. The team also performs the Investment Operations function to administer funds and support front office functions.

Tasks

  • Core Operations:
    • Reconciliation of positions between custodians, prime brokers and internal records of the investment engine, coordination of investigations and/or corrections of erroneous items
    • Communicate with the business and administration teams to reconcile daily, weekly and monthly net asset values (NAV) of funds
    • Collaboration with various internal teams and databases to create reports and analyses
    • Supporting the front office in the selection and ongoing analysis of broker lists
    • Daily review of NAV and performance data to assess portfolio performance and assist with analysis
    • Supporting asset managers and senior executives with performance and historical trading analysis
    • Assisting in the development and improvement of operational processes for 40 Act funds, including regulatory reporting, daily reconciliations and ongoing compliance tasks
  • Technical development:
    • Contribution to the continuous improvement of systems, controls and workflows
    • Learning and using programming tools to improve front office processes and reporting
  • Stakeholder engagement:
    • Collaborate with team members and other departments on both daily activities and long-term projects
    • Clear communication of ideas and recommendations to various interest groups
  • Professional development:
    • Use of training opportunities in technical and financial topics
    • Developing an understanding of investment operations, market infrastructure and fund structures
    • Active role in identifying and designing operational efficiency improvements for process improvements and operational efficiency
    • Participation in the knowledge transfer and best practices of the team

Requirements

Essential skills and/or qualifications:

  • Strong technical skills - such as a recent graduate or with up to one year of work experience
  • Strong analytical mind with the ability to solve complex problems
  • Strong attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence in presentations
  • Proven ability to learn new concepts quickly
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, technical environment (math, finance and accounting, physics, engineering, computer science or any other data or finance-oriented discipline)
  • Interest in financial markets and motivation to build a career in the industry

Advantages (not fixed!)

  • Previous experience in financial services or accounting roles
  • Professional qualifications (CFA, CPA) accounting qualifications or strong interest
  • Python programming (or similar language), SQL or database experience with enthusiasm to develop technical skills
  • Familiarity with US/Brit/US or other control systems
