Application Engineer - Luxembourg
The position as an Application Engineer at Julius Baer in Luxembourg offers the opportunity to serve as a bridge between business and technology and to develop scalable, secure, and reliable software solutions. The Application Engineer works as part of a software development team and is responsible for designing and delivering software solutions that meet the requirements of the enterprise architecture and regulatory standards.
Tasks
The role of an application engineer involves working within a software development team to design and deliver scalable, secure, and reliable software solutions. As a bridge between business and technology, this role ensures that applications are well-designed, production-ready, and compliant with architectural standards, non-functional requirements, and regulatory constraints.Business and Solution Design
The tasks include:- Translating business requirements into clear, testable system requirements and solution designs.
- Conducting end-to-end impact analyses across applications, integrations, and data flows.
- Ensuring alignment with the target architecture, security standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintaining requirements (epics, features, user stories, acceptance criteria) and managing changes throughout the lifecycle.
Application Development (Planning – Building – Operating)
The tasks include:- Assessment of feasibility, risks, and impact on delivery (costs, schedule, complexity).
- Definition of system designs, data models, integration patterns (APIs, messaging, events), and interface contracts.
- Lead the development, configuration, migration, and system integration across cloud, hybrid, and on-premises environments.
- Management of production readiness activities, including runbooks, monitoring, and SLAs/SLOs/SLAs.
- Operations support (L2/L1), incident analysis, root cause investigations, and continuous improvement.
Technical Quality and DevOps
The tasks include:- Embedding non-functional requirements (performance, security, resilience, observability) through design.
- Participation in design and code reviews; support for test strategies and automation.
- Collaboration with DevOps on CI/CD pipelines, environments, automation, and observability.
Requirements
The requirements include:- Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in application development, solution development, or software delivery.
- Experience with T24, TripleA, or CRM systems in the banking or asset management industry would be an advantage.
- Extensive experience in system design, integration architecture, and data modeling.
- Knowledge of APIs, messaging/event architectures, CI/CD, testing, and operational readiness.
- Ability to evaluate code quality in terms of maintainability, performance, and security.
- Excellent communication skills to bridge the gap between business and engineering.
- Experience in the financial services industry or a regulated environment is a plus.
- Fluent English.
