Application Engineer - Luxembourg
The Application Engineer at Julius Baer in Luxembourg is responsible for developing and implementing scalable, secure, and reliable software solutions and serves as a bridge between business and technology. The role requires experience in system design, integration, data modeling, and DevOps, as well as excellent communication skills to bridge the gap between business and technology.
Tasks
The responsibilities of the Application Engineer include:- Translation of business requirements into clear, testable system requirements and solution designs
- Conducting end-to-end impact analyses across applications, integrations, and data flows
- Ensuring alignment with the target architecture, security standards, and regulatory requirements
- Maintaining requirements (epics, features, user stories, acceptance criteria) and managing changes throughout the lifecycle
Application Engineering (Design - Build - Operate)
The tasks in this area include:- Assessment of feasibility, risks, and impact on delivery (costs, schedule, complexity)
- Definition of system designs, data models, integration patterns (APIs, messaging, events), and interface contracts
- Management of development, configuration, migration, and system integration across cloud, hybrid, and on-premises environments
- Management of production operations, including runbooks, monitoring, and SLAs/SLOs
- Operations support (L2/L1), incident analysis, root cause investigations, and continuous improvement
Engineering Quality & DevOps
The tasks in this area include:- Incorporation of non-functional requirements (performance, security, resilience, observability) through design
- Participation in design and code reviews; support for testing strategies and automation
- Collaboration with DevOps on CI/CD pipelines, environments, automation, and observability
Requirements
The requirements for this position are:- Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field
- 8+ years of experience in application engineering, solution engineering, or software delivery roles
- Experience with Temenos T24, TripleA, or CRM systems in banking or asset management is a plus
- Extensive experience in system design, integration architecture, and data modeling
- Knowledge of APIs, messaging/event-driven architectures, CI/CD, testing, and operational readiness
- Ability to assess code quality in terms of maintainability, performance, and security
- Excellent communication skills to bridge the gap between business and engineering
- Experience in financial services or regulated environments is a plus
- Fluent English
