Application Manager
The Julius Baer Group is seeking an Application Manager for its software engineering team who has experience in Java development and wealth management and is capable of solving complex technical problems. The ideal candidate should have at least 10 years of experience in Core Java and Java EE and a proven track record in the financial sector.
Tasks
- Address highly complex legacy defects that developers cannot analyze or resolve.
- Communicate highly technical issues to non-technical audiences.
- Make an impact and shape the engineering practices of existing developers.
- Use root cause analysis to proactively identify and address recurring issues.
- Development and pilot implementation using Java, C#, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, and/or related technologies.
- Understand business and system requirements and translate them into technical solutions that are scalable, stable, and fit for purpose.
- Ensure that the highest standards (including code quality, security, and performance) are met.
- This role provides insight into wealth management systems (CPM, client onboarding, KYC/AML name checks, documentation, compliance, and lifecycle portfolios).
- Passionate about the architecture, development, and deployment of Java systems.
- Analysis, design, coding, and implementation of complex and custom applications.
- Collaborating with teams to achieve goals. Experience with agile methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, or Extreme Programming (XP).
- Experience with best practices such as Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Continuous Integration (CI).
- Investigate and resolve production issues to maintain a stable production environment; remain calm and efficient in crisis situations.
Client/Stakeholder Management (Internal & External)
- Stakeholder Management—close collaboration with finance professionals, business change engineers, and project managers to steer and manage IT deliveries.
- Requirements analysis, effort estimation, schedule planning, progress tracking.
- Ensure that key stakeholders and participants are informed, involved, and supported by preparing project status reports and maintaining communication with stakeholders throughout the project cycle.
- Overseeing and reviewing technical and architectural designs, ensuring compliance with architectural guidelines, and challenging the status quo.
Regulatory Responsibilities: I&O Risk Management
- Determining appropriate values and benchmarks (including, but not limited to, standards for hardware and software/data refresh frequency) and managing processes and data integrity during changes.
Requirements
Professional
- At least 10 years of experience in development using Core Java and Java EE.
- At least 3 years of experience in the financial sector.
- At least 2 years of experience in TDD.
- Well-organized and able to prioritize and carry out multiple tasks. Able to influence and steer projects to achieve key milestones and overcome challenges.
- Able to translate functional requirements into efficient and/or practical technical solutions.
- Experience in the finance/banking sector is preferred.
