Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning Engineer, Director

Job Description

We are seeking a Director of AI Platform Engineering to provide technical leadership and vision for the development of BlackRock’s AI platform. The successful candidate should be an experienced technologist with expertise in the development, engineering, and operation of large-scale distributed systems, with strong skills in software, LLM agents, inference/MLOps (including model services), and databases. This role requires a combination of technical depth, architectural expertise, and the ability to collaborate with engineering and technology teams across various business units and functions.

• Development of technical strategy and architecture for AI/ML platforms
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify, design, build, and operate products and systems
• Implementation of end-to-end delivery of AI/ML system solutions

Requirements

• Strong background in computer science, engineering, or a related field
• 10+ years of experience
• Proven track record in technical leadership and platform growth
• Experience with AI infrastructure (e.g., GPUs, TPUs)
• Strong software engineering skills (Python, Java, and/or C++)
• Extensive expertise in artificial intelligence and Python
• Experience in developing large-scale distributed systems
• Strong understanding of ML/DL frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow)
• Experience with platforms such as Kafka, Cassandra, and AI system architectures
• Strong understanding of MLOps practices, including model deployment and monitoring
• Experience collaborating with data engineers and data scientists to integrate solutions and improve delivery
• Ability to translate complex ideas into simple, high-quality, and scalable solutions
