Associate Cross-Asset Trader

The Associate Cross-Asset Trader is responsible for executing trades and placing orders in support of Man Group’s investment strategies. The role requires a combination of technical skills, market knowledge, and analytical thinking to develop the best execution strategies for Man Group’s clients.

Job Description

The position of Associate Cross-Asset Trader involves executing trades and placing orders for Man's investment engines.

Tasks

- Awareness of and compliance with the regulatory and legal framework governing the trader’s activities, including relevant market abuse rules - Ensuring that orders can be placed and executed within the relevant market risk limits and thresholds, as well as prudential limits - Ensuring that all trades are novated to the extent permitted

Processes and Procedures

- Knowledge, understanding, and adherence to Man’s Global Compliance guidelines and internal processes relevant to the trader’s business activities - Obtaining the necessary authorization to ensure that all trades are executed correctly - Regular reporting to the appropriate supervisor - Ensuring that all trades are correctly recorded in the trading system

Best Execution

- Continuous improvement of processes to ensure that the firm meets its best execution obligations to clients - Management and ongoing review of execution data and trading costs - Review of the framework for the ongoing assessment and improvement of the execution process to minimize slippage and opportunity costs

Leverage, Technology

- Providing trading technology to enhance execution tools and TAT - Improving technology to automate workflows - Driving the development of our trading platform, infrastructure, and technology

Operational and technical considerations

- Ability to reschedule pending trades based on instructions from the PM, as needed - Continued ability to view P&Ls and holdings - Practical experience trading outside the trading room - Contact with the stock loan desk

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of experience in execution trading at a financial institution or relevant technical experience
  • Advanced skills in programming languages such as Python and SOG
  • Understanding Market Microstructure
  • Practical mindset, willing to engage with technology and projects within the company
  • Strong academic background and a degree from a leading university
  • Attention to detail and disciplined, able to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment
  • Intellectually robust with an analytical approach to problem solving
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with investment management teams and regions, clients, and trading teams
  • A team player, collaborative, customer-focused, and results-oriented
  • Strong proficiency in Mandarin, both written and spoken
  • Willingness to travel and work from our Shanghai office
