Associate, Securities Lending Operations

As an Associate in Securities Lending Operations at BlackRock in Edinburgh, you will oversee the day-to-day securities lending process, collateral management, and operational risk. You will work closely with various departments to ensure the efficiency and compliance of global securities lending transactions.

Role Summary

  • Join BlackRock’s Securities Lending Operations team and play a critical role in supporting one of the global trading operations.
  • This role offers the opportunity to develop expertise in a range of lending products, collateral management, operational risk, and trade lifecycle operations while collaborating with stakeholders in Trading, Custody, Credit Analysis for Investment Participants, and the Lending function.

Team Overview

  • Securities Lending Operations supports the end-to-end lifecycle of BlackRock’s global securities lending business.
  • The team is responsible for transaction processing, collateral management, leverage optimization, regulatory compliance, accounting, and billing reconciliations.
  • The function works closely with Trading, Custody, Credit, and other business lines to facilitate lending activities while maintaining strong operational controls and regulatory compliance.

Roles Overview

  • As an Associate in Securities Lending Operations, you will oversee daily operational risk assessments and monitor liquidity and capital solutions in a fast-paced environment.
  • The position offers significant exposure to securities lending operations, collateral management, and financial markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily securities lending activities, including securities lending processing and collateral optimization as needed.
  • Monitor market activity and regulatory developments, supporting lending agents, brokers, and third-party service providers to facilitate lending activities while maintaining strong operational controls and regulatory compliance.
  • Identify operational risks, escalate issues appropriately, and support remediation efforts to strengthen controls.
  • Produce and analyze operational reports on market performance, service-level metrics, and management information.
  • Contribute to initiatives related to automation, process improvement, and operating model enhancement that improve efficiency and scalability.
  • Support new business initiatives, client onboarding, market application events, and phased implementations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reconciliations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, business, or a related field.
  • 2–5 years of experience in securities lending, investment operations, or financial services.
  • A strong understanding of the securities lending business in a regulated financial services environment.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, implement risk controls, and take a proactive approach.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to collaborate across teams.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting securities lending, collateral operations, investment operations, or post-trade processes.
  • Knowledge of operational risk frameworks, reconciliations, exception management, and control environments.
  • Experience with data analysis, team automation, cost reduction, or process improvement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with investment management, asset servicing, or custody operating models.
  • Professional certifications such as CIA, CFA, FRM, or equivalent qualifications and experience.
