Associate, Software Engineering

Northern Trust is looking for a software engineer in Pune, India, who works with Java, Spring Boot, and databases to develop applications and provide Level 3 production support for wealth management platforms. The candidate should have 3–6 years of experience in the financial sector, ITIL certification, and strong SQL skills.

Tasks

  • Design, development, deployment, and testing of software applications that meet the requirements specified in JIRA tickets
  • Implementation of enhancements for existing legacy applications (Java, VB, C#, PLT, PowerBuilder) and migration to cloud technologies
  • Coordination with global teams around the world to ensure coverage of local time zones
  • Work on improving processes and implementing quality objectives
  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) and coach for junior developers on various projects
  • Provision of L3 operational support for wealth management platforms and applications
  • Provision of L1 triage, troubleshooting, proactive monitoring, and escalation of service releases
  • Management of infrastructure applications (e.g., import tools, EOD tools, ticket-loading tools, MBS, reporting, and trading desk, etc.)
  • Role as Product Owner for the supported apps and systems
  • Processing inquiries regarding outdated ISG data and incorporating them into an internal knowledge management and self-help page
  • Maintenance of SWAGAR forms and creation of documentation for user training
  • Building effective working relationships with a wide range of people, including clients, development, business, architects, and customers
  • Compliance with Company Standards
  • Archiving of Batch Reporting (ABC)
  • Monitoring the USE System
  • Monitoring Tomcat
  • Close collaboration with other technology areas such as development, infrastructure, and the software support team

Requirements

  • Relevant degree in computer science/IT from a recognized university
  • Strong knowledge of Core Java
  • Experience with frameworks such as Spring Boot and Hibernate
  • Familiarity with programming/scripting languages (Python, PLT, PowerBuilder)
  • Experience working with relational databases (MS SQL Server, DB2)
  • Ability to use various technical tools such as JProfiler, Lucene, the ELK Stack, Selenium, Sonar, JMeter, Jenkins, and Node.js
  • Background in Agile Methods (Scrum/Agile)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of current and historical trends in emerging technologies such as analytics, AI, machine learning, cloud infrastructure, and big data
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and efficiently deliver high-quality results
  • 3+ years of experience in a technical, business-oriented role (front-to-back) within a financial institution or a similar environment
  • ITIL-certified
  • Clear Certified
  • Knowledge of ITIL is required
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a solid technical background, are essential, as these roles support the U.S. back-office team
  • This role requires an expert with in-depth knowledge of SQL
  • Knowledge of Common and Emerging Applications
  • Knowledge of JIRA is required
  • Working with Applications (Python, PLT, PowerBuilder)
  • Experience in production support using database tools such as DB, Python, PLT, PowerBuilder, and SQL
  • Problem-solving using analytical and logical thinking, and confidence in resolving end-user production issues
  • A bachelor's degree or a four-year degree and/or 3–6 years of relevant prior work experience. Industry-specific qualifications are preferred.
