BRM Incident Issue Program Lead, AVP

The Incident & Issues Program Lead is responsible for managing incidents and events at State Street Investment Management to ensure their nature and impact are understood and next steps are determined. The candidate will work closely with business leaders, EPM and Compliance to identify and manage risks.

Why this role is important to us

The Business Risk Management Executive (BRME) team is a first line function that works with State Street Investment Management (State Street M6) business teams to properly identify, assess and manage operational and regulatory risks. The Incident & Issues Program Lead will play a key role in this team, responsible for managing State Street M6's inventory of incidents and events to ensure a clear understanding of their nature and impact and determine next steps.

Tasks

  • Support the business in the reporting, data sources, handling and escalation of State Street M6 incidents (e.g. errors, data incidents and client complaints) and State Street M6's Issue Deficiency in the design or effectiveness of the control or operating environment
  • Review and challenge content of incidents and issues as part of the reviewer stage of the workflow and expand coverage of both programs to improve program alignment between the two, non-financial / financial; and any miscategorization / prioritization / root cause action
  • Identify risk control issues and present regularly to senior managers and governance forums to develop and maintain a clear understanding of any gaps and/or impact - if required - on remediation
  • Monitoring of risk and performance indicators; escalation of issues and incidents to business owners and senior risk owners in coordination with EPM
  • Lead the reporting of incidents and issues to senior managers and governance committees to ensure content is clear, prioritized and that key issues, preventative measures and/or exceptions are highlighted for review and action
  • Collaborate with other teams to mature knowledge of business activities, non-financial risk management, industry regulation and standards, and business and technology risks; efficiently and effectively apply insights on how, when and where events occur, and priorities are framed and changed
  • Engage with BRM colleagues, leaders of other risk programs and 2nd and 3rd line of defense partners to further challenge and develop risk management provisions
  • Establish and maintain a strong control environment function between front office business users and support functions that demonstrates credibility and expertise on core programs and services
  • Training of business partners on requirements and expectations of the incident and problem program
  • Develop and maintain State Street M6's view of risk prioritization of action items as technology enhancements, new product/initiative program plans for development; outline high value enhancements and coordinate tasks as needed

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in the financial services sector with a large financial services organization or business/consulting firm, including experience as an internal auditor, risk or compliance officer related to business risks that are actively assessed and managed
  • Independent strategic thinker with an understanding of regulatory, operational and technological risks in the financial services sector, particularly in the area of compliance or investment management
  • Strong organizational awareness to facilitate and navigate conflict; ability to make informed, risk-optimized decisions under time pressure
  • Ability to lead and coach teams to achieve efficient and high quality results
  • Ability to be confidential and work with sensitive information
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to adapt to different situations and audiences
  • Proven analytical and problem solving skills and ability to work on global cross-functional projects
  • Strong ability to lead through influence
  • Excellent skills in MS Excel, PowerPoint and process mapping tools
