Business Risk Manager

The Senior Business Risk Manager supports the ongoing development and improvement of a comprehensive risk management system for the Private Banking division and is responsible for monitoring and optimizing control processes. The successful candidate will be part of the Business Risk Management team in the first line of defense (FLoD) at EFG Bank International in Hong Kong.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Supporting the ongoing development and improvement of a comprehensive risk and control assessment for all aspects of risk within Private Banking First Line of Defense (FLoD), including effective monitoring of the testing program (annual review of the PB Control Blueprint).
  • Responsibility for ensuring that a comprehensive risk-based control monitoring program exists for the function, demonstrating the adequacy and effectiveness of key controls.
  • Performing more complex business controlling and monitoring tasks in various areas, e.g., investment suitability, cross-border, anti-fraud, etc.
  • Support the Head of BRM in preparing regular and ad hoc reports for the Operation Risk Committee, etc., on the status of control tests, observations, findings, and proactive recommendations.
  • Support and implementation of thematic reviews, special investigations (as needed), and reporting on analyses with observations, causes, and consequence management (as needed).
  • Managing and administering projects (as needed) across different departments and stakeholders to implement changes and improvements and be accountable for the results of the implementation.
  • Supporting the PB COO and Head of BRM in initiatives to promote risk awareness in the front office, e.g., designing training programs, supporting risk culture training, individual coaching, etc.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and 2LOD stakeholders (Ops Risk, Compliance, etc.) to identify, assess, and mitigate risks in business operations and ensure that appropriate controls are in place or remain relevant and effective.
  • Responsible for proactively escalating, reporting, advising and challenging existing processes in relation to Private Banking business activities.
  • Managing the FLoD Risk Scorecard and ensuring the proper tracking, execution, and integrity of the scorecard.
  • Support and advise front office staff on investment advisory/suitable activities to ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures and local regulatory requirements.
  • Building strong relationships and credibility with key internal stakeholders.
  • Guiding junior team members and new employees and monitoring or supervising construction tasks (e.g., performing quality checks, issuing judgments regarding the impact on the risk scorecard, etc.).
  • Support the PB COO and the Head of BRM in processing and responding to audit requests and observations.
  • Performing other tasks within Business Risk Management or as instructed by the PB COO and/or the Head of Business Risk Management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in business administration, finance, economics or related fields.
  • 6-7 years or more experience in the finance or banking industry.
  • Previous experience with general risk management, including control frameworks, is preferred.
  • Understanding of products and the regulatory banking environment for wealth.
  • Experience in communicating with internal business partners.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously, multi-task and prioritize tasks.
