Business Risk Manager

The Business Risk Manager at Julius Baer in Singapore is responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating enterprise-wide risks, as well as maintaining the business risk management framework in close collaboration with the CRO function. The position requires three years of experience in banking and business risk management, as well as in-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements and risk management methodologies.

Tasks

  • Support in establishing, operating, and maintaining a consistent and effective business risk management framework in close coordination with the CRO functions. This encompasses multidimensional aspects, particularly those related to risk governance in the front office, policy standards, training, and reporting.
  • Providing risk inputs for business projects and cases.
  • Identifying risks, reviewing and scrutinizing processes, systems, and individuals, and proposing mitigation measures.
  • Support the Head of BRM in conducting thematic and business-specific risk reviews.
  • Identifying significant risks to management and ensuring that they are mitigated or accepted.
  • Article on management reporting.
  • Participation in Market Management Committees on risk management issues.
  • Highlighting instances of misconduct to front-line management.
  • Ensuring close and systematic cooperation and the flow of information between the 1st Line of Defense (1st LoD) and the 2nd Line of Defense (2nd LoD).
  • Support for manager reviews.
  • Support for audits and internal/external reviews.
  • Demonstrating appropriate values and behaviors, including, but not limited to, standards of honesty and integrity, diligence and conscientiousness, fair treatment of customers, management of conflicts of interest, competence and continuous development, appropriate risk management, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Reaching appropriate compromises with stakeholders in the event of negative project outcomes despite appropriate measures, and defining and monitoring internal risk-mitigation measures.
  • Identifying training and awareness needs, contributing to risk training and awareness campaigns, and supporting communication among front-line staff.
  • Analysis of front-to-back processes from a risk perspective.
  • Risk support/monitoring, incident management, and remediation measures/projects.
  • Provide support and ensure that any resulting audit inquiries (from regulatory authorities, external auditors, and GIA) are addressed in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Three years of professional experience in the banking industry.
  • Three years of professional experience in business risk management.
  • A college degree in business, finance, mathematics, physics, or a related field (preferably with a focus on economics or finance).
  • A strong understanding of risk management concepts in a banking environment; prior experience in a risk and control role (Risk, Compliance, or Internal Audit) is highly valued.
  • Candidates are expected to have comprehensive knowledge of financial and banking regulations and compliance requirements, as well as a solid understanding of the key capital frameworks (Basel Principles, internal and external regulatory requirements, e.g., FINMA, ECB, FCA, LSE).
  • Ability to demonstrate a practical and business-oriented approach to risk management; both quantitative and qualitative risk management skills are required.
  • A business-oriented mindset and a solid understanding of customer relationships, relationship managers (RMs), and front-office processes.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to put the pieces of the puzzle together and develop strategies.
  • Solid knowledge or a willingness to learn front-to-back processes.
  • Strong communication skills and interface management skills.
  • Proficiency in Risk Management
