Chief Risk Officer/Head of Risk Management

CRO Bahrain is seeking a Chief Risk Officer with at least 10 years of experience in banking who will be responsible for developing risk tolerance frameworks and overseeing asset allocation strategies for high-net-worth clients. The candidate should have in-depth knowledge of risk management, portfolio management, and relevant IT systems, and be willing to travel frequently within the region.

Tasks

  • Management of the asset allocation strategy in the UAE or in regional asset allocation portfolios
  • Responsibility for setting financial goals such as asset allocation, income requirements, and consistency of risk-adjusted returns at the highest level
  • Development of risk tolerance frameworks for investment portfolios within client portfolios
  • Ensuring the necessary liquidity to meet current short-term needs, including maintaining an adequate cash balance and/or a reserve of investments
  • Development of investment solutions, including hedging strategies, derivative instruments, and foreign exchange and currency management
  • Participating in internal oversight committees, assessing the impact on customers, and making recommendations where necessary
  • Collaborate with clients on the implementation of services or portfolio management to demonstrate management skills

Requirements

  • At least 10+ years of relevant experience in the banking industry, with expertise in middle-office/credit risk, corporate finance, and risk systems
  • A university degree, master’s degree, or advanced qualification from accredited institutions such as CFA, FRM, CPA, KSAU, PhD, or MSc. Knowledge of portfolio management, including topics taught by analysts in credit, market/trading regulation, global trade finance, treasury services, and consulting
  • Knowledge of risk management methods, including regulatory capital adequacy, operational losses, and stress tests
  • A deep understanding of the risk factors that affect a client’s retail business operations and financial position
  • Basic data analysis skills—proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, and statistical software
  • Understanding of IT systems such as SAP, Oracle, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Willingness to travel frequently on business to gain an understanding of regional or international markets
  • Proactive, flexible, and a strong sense of urgency to close the deal
