Compliance Officer - Client Onboarding (f/m/d)

The Compliance Officer - Client Onboarding is responsible for enforcing anti-money laundering standards and assessing unusual activities within the Julius Baer Group. The role includes conducting background checks, monitoring transactions, and supporting relationship managers with compliance issues.

Tasks

  • Work as a specialist in the enforcement of anti-money laundering (AML) standards and the assessment of suspicious activity
  • Conduct employee-related investigations and reviews to propose mitigating measures and sanctions in close cooperation with HR and the business
  • Conduct comprehensive background checks, critically evaluate sources of information, and document them
  • Identify issues that arise during the review process, escalate them, and initiate and monitor mitigating measures to reduce the bank’s risk
  • Collaborate with partners from all three lines of defense (front line, compliance, and internal audit) as well as other functions (relationship managers, front-office risk management, etc.) and domestic and international group members
  • Provide training and training materials related to compliance issues
  • Recommend, develop, and implement solutions for the continuous improvement of our processes, procedures, and services
  • Responsible for fraud prevention and detection and ownership of the internal and external fraud risk model (for employee coverage only)

Transaction Monitoring (role-specific)

  • Independently review unusual transactions detected by the IT-based AML monitoring system, analyze the economic context, and assess whether the transaction is consistent with the customer’s KYC (Know Your Customer) profile
  • Perform additional clarifications if necessary (e.g., investigate with front-office units, perform adverse information checks on the client and/or beneficiary of the transaction, request and review supporting documentation, etc.).
  • Review supporting documents and evaluate negative information (including assessing the reliability of the source)

Private Banking Compliance (Role-Specific)

  • Support relationship managers and executives in implementing and monitoring compliance matters
  • Conduct customer onboarding checks, including KYC assessments, customer history reviews, cash flow analysis, CBI (Agreement on the Swiss Banking Code of Conduct regarding the exercise of due diligence), and event-triggered KTC checks
  • Draw attention to unresolved onboarding issues and escalations
  • Identify and investigate serious cases of non-compliance
  • Provide training and training materials related to compliance issues

Requirements

  • Strong computer skills; proficiency in due diligence search tools: Name Check, Lexis-Nexis, Acuris, Sphinx, WorldCheck
  • Familiarity with the MLRO office and IT (IT skills are not strictly required)
  • Ability to effectively apply practical knowledge of global AML and CFT regulations and standards, as well as current money laundering schemes, to effectively identify and mitigate risks
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid
