Compliance Officer - Client Onboarding (f/m/d)

The Compliance Officer - Client Onboarding is responsible for enforcing anti-money laundering standards and assessing unusual activities at Julius Baer. The role includes conducting background checks, identifying cases of fraud, and developing solutions for the continuous improvement of processes and services.

Tasks

As a Compliance Officer - Client Onboarding, you are responsible for enforcing anti-money laundering (AML) standards and evaluating unusual activities. Your tasks include:
  • Conducting employee-related investigations and reviews to propose mitigating measures and sanctions in close cooperation with HR and the business
  • Conducting comprehensive background checks, evaluating and documenting information sources
  • Escalation of issues identified during the review and initiation and monitoring of mitigation measures to reduce the bank's risk exposure
  • Collaboration with partners from all three lines of defense (front office, compliance, and internal audit) as well as other functions (relationship managers, front office risk management, etc.) and domestic and foreign group affiliates
  • Provision of training and training materials related to compliance issues
  • Recommendation, development, and implementation of solutions for the continuous improvement of our processes, procedures, and services
  • Responsibility for fraud prevention and detection and ownership of the internal and external fraud risk type frame (for employee-related coverage only)

Transaction monitoring

As Compliance Officer - Client Onboarding, you will also be responsible for monitoring transactions. Your tasks will include:
  • Independent review of unusual transactions detected by the IT-based AML monitoring system, analysis of the economic background, and assessment of whether the transaction is consistent with the customer's KYC profile.
  • Conducting additional clarifications, if necessary (e.g., investigation with front units, conducting adverse information checks on the ordering party and/or the beneficiary of the transaction, requesting and reviewing confirmation documents, etc.)
  • Verification of supporting documents and assessment of negative news (including assessment of the reliability of the source)

Private Banking Compliance

As a Compliance Officer - Client Onboarding, you will also be responsible for supporting relationship managers and executives in implementing and monitoring compliance matters. Your tasks will include:
  • Conducting customer onboarding checks, including assessment of KYC, customer story, money flow, CDB (agreement on the Swiss banking code of conduct with regard to the exercise of due diligence), and event-triggered KYC checks
  • Tracking open onboarding issues and escalations
  • Identification and investigation of serious cases of non-compliance
  • Provision of training and training materials related to compliance issues

Requirements

As a Compliance Officer - Client Onboarding, you should meet the following requirements:
  • Good computer skills, required knowledge of due diligence search tools: Name Check, Lexis-Nexis, Siron, Spark, Skyminder, Cribis, Wealth-X
  • Good knowledge of MS Office and IT flair
  • Ability to apply effective working knowledge of global AML and CFT regulations and standards, current money laundering schemes to effectively identify and mitigate risks
