Compliance Officer, Italy, Full-Time (m, f, d)
As a Compliance Officer at Julius Baer in Milan, you will advise the company on Italian and European financial regulations, with a focus on insurance brokerage activities. You will support the business units in complying with regulatory requirements, maintain dialogue with regulatory authorities, and implement compliance measures.
Tasks
- The role serves as a compliance advisor within the entity regarding Italian and European financial regulations, particularly those related to insurance brokerage activities. This includes overseeing regulatory reporting and providing direct support to the insurance department.
- Advising JBBR’s compliance department on applicable banking and securities laws and regulations, as well as internal policies, including financial regulations and, in particular, insurance brokerage activities (as of mid-2021, 20096—subject to change and evolution), with knowledge of all regulations, industry best practices, and compliance requirements.
- Support the CRO and the Group’s FSA Services department in maintaining a strong and consistent relationship with Italian authorities and other relevant regulatory bodies, and ensure the proper functioning of local regulatory authorities.
- Advising JBR management on compliance-related matters.
- Consulting on compliance-related matters for front-office, middle-office, and senior management.
- Compliance-related projects through analysis of market competitors and market trends.
- Assisting the company with related regulatory activities concerning compliance and supervisory matters.
- Coverage of projects for new business units and compliance activities.
- Ensuring a thorough and effective understanding of all relevant, related topics, as well as new guidelines and procedures.
- Implement and maintain relevant global standards, as defined in the Julius Baer Compliance Program for JBR, while taking into account current local regulations and procedures.
- Support for the business units.
- Taking proactive measures to ensure that the company complies with existing compliance guidelines at all times.
- Implement appropriate controls in accordance with the “Three Lines of Defense Model” and ensure that execution and the associated controls comply with relevant guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Monitoring and developing appropriate systems established by the company to ensure that risk management processes and relevant regulatory matters are continuously updated.
- Monitoring the implementation of compliance measures, policies, rules, and procedures for compliance systems and processes.
- Ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Ensuring that all parties receive independent legal advice regarding financial statements and relevant regulations issued by regulatory authorities.
- Ensuring compliance with the legally required duty of care.
- Training employees on relevant compliance topics, regulations, and procedures—including anti-money laundering (AML)—and discussing necessary measures—identifying, assessing, and monitoring compliance issues.
- Training employees on new regulations or recommendations from regulatory agencies as they relate to their daily work or new areas of responsibility.
- Assessing whether issues arising from internal investigations are being handled appropriately.
- Performing duties in accordance with professional and legal regulations.
- Other tasks as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Requirements
- Education in the fields of business, finance, or law.
- Excellent working knowledge of Italian and European financial regulations (particularly those governing insurance brokerage).
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in the financial services industry (banking, insurance, pensions, etc.).
- Excellent understanding of the European financial market and the law, particularly insurance regulations and their impact on business operations.
- Excellent spoken English and a good command of French.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in addressing compliance-related operational challenges and opportunities.
