Data Engineer - Data Management

Tasks

As a Data Management Engineer, you will use your technical and business skills to onboard and support data that drives investment processes and projects. You will be responsible for providing support and delivering high-quality data analysis and quality assurance.

Team and role

The Data Management team is part of the Data & Machine Learning group within Man Technology and has offices in London and New York. The team is responsible for managing and maintaining company data (e.g., reference data, market data, etc.) used by the investment teams and the business.

* First level of data support for portfolio managers, researchers, traders, engineers, and data scientists across the organization * Lead onboarding and integration processes for various financial and alternative data sets * Design and build ETL pipelines using industry standards and proprietary technologies; Define and optimize data models, architectures, and workflows in collaboration with business teams * Proactively identify and resolve data quality issues before they impact downstream users Promote data quality management with engineering * Responsible for continuously supporting, monitoring, and improving data accuracy and consistency across systems * Create and manage data products, improve usage tracking, analyze usage patterns, and optimize cost allocation and models * Curate and maintain a metadata catalog and knowledge base, and promote the automation of daily tasks

Requirements

* Experience with data collection, processing, and analysis, preferably in the financial industry * A degree in computer science or a similar field * Expertise in ETL, tools, and related technologies * Exceptional attention to detail with a proven ability to deliver high-quality analysis and possess strong analytical skills and accuracy to ensure data quality * Strong written and verbal communication skills * Excel or equivalent

Further requirements

* Experience with data modeling, data lakehouse, Linux/UNIX/GNU, 3+ years * Familiarity with one or more relevant databases, e.g., Apache Kudu, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, Kafka, etc. * Experience working with large and unstructured data sets * Experience or knowledge of data standards and/or understanding of market data structures * Data stewardship management skills with proven ability to collaborate effectively with various teams and seniority levels internally and externally

* Strong academic performance and higher education degrees with a high mathematical and computer science content, e.g., computer science, mathematics, finance * A desire to further your education with data and projects within the company * A desire to lead and exert significant influence with a data strategy and competing business needs and priorities * Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain close working relationships with quantitative researchers, technologists, traders, and senior managers * Confident communication to articulate a point of view concisely and deal constructively with conflicting views
