Data Engineer - Data Management
The job posting describes a position as Data Engineer - Data Management at Man Group, a global investment management company, where the applicant will be responsible for managing and maintaining security master data and developing data pipelines and models. Tasks
- First tier Provide data support for portfolio managers, researchers, traders, engineers, and data scientists across the enterprise.
- Manage onboarding and migration of various financial and alternative data sets.
- Develop and build ETL pipelines using industry standard and proprietary technologies; define and optimize data models, schemas, and workflows with engineering teams.
- Proactively monitor and resolve quality issues before they impact downstream users; drive data quality management with engineers.
- Own and enhance security master control and data quality monitoring tools to ensure accuracy and data integrity.
- Manage data management permissions, improve usage strategy, analyze usage patterns, and optimize costs.
- Curate and maintain metadata catalog and knowledge base, and drive forward the potential automation of daily tasks.
Requirements
Essential
- Experience with data ingestion, management, and analysis, preferably in the financial industry.
- Strong knowledge of Python and SQL.
- Expertise in ETL, tools, and technologies.
- Knowledge of data warehouse concepts; ability to create and deliver high-quality analyses, with strong analytical thinking and responsibility for results.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
Advantage
- Practical experience with data modeling, data warehousing, Linux/Unix, SQL, 3+ years is desirable.
- Familiarity with one or more relevant database technologies, e.g., Apache Kafka, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, etc.
- Experience with large and unstructured data sets.
- Practical experience with financial data extraction and understanding of market data structures.
- Stakeholder management skills with proven ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and seniority levels internally and externally.
Personal Attributes
- Strong academic background and higher education with a high level of mathematical and computer science content, e.g., computer science, mathematics, finance.
- Hands-on attitude; willing to tackle projects across the entire company.
- Self-organized with the ability to effectively manage time across multiple projects and competing business demands and priorities.
- Can work independently, but also establish and maintain close working relationships with quantitative researchers, technologists, traders, and other business professionals.
- Confident communication; can present a point of view concisely and deal with conflicting views.
