Data Platform Manager (Full-Time) (f/m/d)
As Data Platform Responsible at Julius Baer in Zurich, you will be responsible for the technical leadership and governance of a global data platform, working closely with product owners and architects. The position requires at least 8 years of experience with modern data lake architectures, big data frameworks, and cloud technologies in the financial sector.
Tasks
- You will serve as the primary technical point of contact for the technical design of a global platform based on modern data architecture principles and aligned with business requirements.
- You are part of the agile setup and support the development team.
- You will lead the technical design, development, and operational performance of the platform and drive the technical roadmap for platform services in close collaboration with other roles.
- They provide leadership and lifecycle management for platforms based on modern architectural principles.
- You contribute to the platform's technical roadmap, including technology changes, modernizations, deprecations, and decommissioning, in alignment with business and architectural strategies as well as Platform 2.0.
- You will take the lead on and contribute to key deliverables, including solution design, security concepts, and agreements, and ensure compliance with architectural standards in collaboration with business units, platform and IT service owners, and system architects.
- You plan and coordinate application releases in accordance with change and release management governance, including end-to-end and interface automation testing.
- Together with the Product Owner, Platform Owner, and IT Service Owners, you decide on the production go-live and ensure a robust implementation.
- They ensure that the platform is delivered in accordance with quality standards and manage compliance with the 2.0 architecture principles as well as the platform's architecture and framework.
- They monitor the platform infrastructure and data development activities, promote the “shift-left approach to deployment planning” (automation, unit testing, C/ICD), and ensure the robust implementation of functional and security requirements.
- They provide third-level support, serve as the master data custodian in JBARI, and oversee supplier management for data management tools.
- They provide third-tier support for technical issues, serve as the master data custodian in JBARI, and manage vendor and third-party applications, including performance and delivery monitoring.
- They assess the effort required for changes, provide advice on technical risks and how to mitigate them, and offer support with budgeting and technical requirements.
- You ensure that technical requirements are properly validated and tested before approval.
- You are responsible for the global data platform, which provides global data for various use cases, and ensure that the environment remains stable and operational at all times.
- They work closely with the PO/ITSO as a team on roadmap planning.
- You will assist the system architect in gathering and maintaining technical details as needed.
- You will support the Business Responsible and the IT Product Owner in designing platform service offerings and frameworks, and manage the delivery of platform services.
- They work with support teams in Asia to ensure extended support hours.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of experience with data platforms, data lakes, and data lakehouses (e.g., Hadoop, distributed storage such as S3/HDFS)—preferably on-premises.
- Several years of professional experience in a similar position in the financial sector.
- Experience in leading the technical direction of data platforms, with an understanding of the latest capabilities in tools, formats, and concepts.
- Experience managing the entire platform lifecycle, from concept and design through testing, deployment, and operations to eventual decommissioning, including responsibility for incident support and release coordination.
- Knowledge of the various layers and components of data platforms (storage, processing, analytics, security) and their interdependencies.
- Solid experience with key data processing and data orchestration frameworks: Apache Hadoop, Airflow, etc.
- Excellent knowledge of at least one of the following big data frameworks: Spark, Hive, Presto, Impala, or Trino, in the context of data processing and analysis
