Data Science Analyst
The team
Man Group's Data and Machine Learning division is focused on ensuring that the business can gain valuable insights from data. The team is responsible for sourcing and delivering traditional and alternative data and developing data products.
The role
As an Analyst in the Data Science Analysts team, you will use your specific and general skills to support the quantitative researchers and portfolio management teams in the development of data-driven trading models. Your focus will be on sourcing, curation, cleansing, mapping, analytical and data wrangling tasks.
Tasks
- Collaborate with investment teams to identify data opportunities, propose creative use cases and make decisions.
- Acquisition, transformation and analysis of large, complex and unstructured amounts of data to support investment research and decision-making.
- Standardize data feeds for vendor relationships, evaluate, document and compare new data offerings to assess their applicability to our investment teams.
- Processing, communicating and documenting results to support investment teams and maintain an accessible knowledge base.
- Contributing to company-wide data initiatives, improving the data ecosystem and informing industry trends in alternative data.
- Develop and test proof-of-concept data products to validate investment hypotheses and work with technology to produce them.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in a related position.
- Ability to present results, conclusions and technical concepts to non-technical target groups.
- Experience working with data scientists, business partners to learn business requirements and the ability to proactively drive data-driven solutions that solve business issues.
- Strong academic background and university degree in a STEM subject.
- Strong technical skills.
- Expertise in Python data science stack, including Pandas, NumPy, Spark, Matplotlib, Jupyter, SQL experience.
- Experience with ETL and evaluation of large amounts of data.
- Working knowledge of Snowflake, Unix / Linux, GIT, DBT, D3.js is preferred.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Self-organized with the ability to manage time effectively across multiple projects and with competing priorities.
- Experience working with investment professionals in a fast-paced environment is preferred, but not required.
