Job description

Director of Origination - Maritime & Offshore Investment Banking

Tasks

The main tasks include:
  • Lead new business development: Identify shipping groups, asset managers, investors, service providers, and other participants in the maritime and offshore sectors to generate mandates for debt, equity, hybrid financing, M&A, and restructuring.
  • Developing and maintaining a strong network of relationships: shipping companies (owners/operators), banks, direct credit funds, private equity firms, leasing and asset finance institutions, technical advisors, and institutional investors.
  • Development of financing and advisory solutions: Proposing structural concepts, access to capital markets, hybrid instruments, and alternative forms of financing tailored to maritime/offshore clients.
  • Collaborate with the broader Maritime & Offshore team to develop pitch books, teasers, client proposals, and investment memoranda focused on origination opportunities.
  • Collaborate with execution teams (VPs, associates, analysts) to ensure a smooth transition from origination to execution and to provide strategic insights into business opportunities.
  • Monitoring market trends in shipping, offshore, and the energy transition (e.g., ESG, decarbonization, specialized assets) and identifying new segments or product ideas.
  • Representing Alantra at industry conferences, seminars, forums, and client events; publishing thought leadership articles or insights relevant to maritime/offshore financing.
  • Supporting revenue goals, managing pipelines, monitoring origination metrics, and contributing to the practice’s overall growth strategy.

Requirements

The requirements include:
  • Extensive network within the maritime shipping industry—shipping companies, financial institutions, leasing companies, investors, and technical consultants.
  • Strong structuring and commercial skills: Ability to design financing solutions, tailor product packages, negotiate term sheets, and communicate with investors and creditors.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to influence senior clients and stakeholders; fluent in English. Greek is a strong plus.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset: Self-starter, proactive in identifying new opportunities, comfortable in a fast-paced, cross-border environment.
  • Teamwork and leadership: While the focus is on origination, you will work closely with execution teams and senior management, so organizational, coordination, and mentoring skills are essential.

We offer

We offer:
  • Exposure to high-profile international maritime and offshore contracts operating in one of the world’s leading shipping hubs.
  • The opportunity to build and shape a growing practice within a global investment banking platform.
  • A dynamic and entrepreneurial company
