Director, U.S. Finance
Man Group is seeking a Director, US Finance in New York to lead the finance function for over 40 U.S. entities and oversee tax and regulatory reporting. The position offers a salary of $400,000 to $500,000 and requires certified accounting credentials (CPA/ACCA) as well as experience in the financial services sector.
Purpose of the role
- Contribution to a significant shift in the evolution of the U.S. finance function.
- Review and implementation of new U.S. underwriting teams during the first year of the Man U.S. Underwriting Team.
- Performing accounting oversight and financial management functions within a U.S. legal entity.
- Responsibility for the finance function across all 40 U.S.-based group companies.
- Based in either the New York team or the TL team, with work conducted both on-site and remotely.
- Spending approximately 50% of the time in New York and the remaining time working remotely, which means being on-site full-time at the office.
- Leading a team of 4–6 direct reports/managers.
- Balancing high-level strategic thinking with practical implementation.
- Shaping the future of the finance function and leading the way toward a high-performing finance team.
Special Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary U.S. ICAAP contact and provide general oversight, as well as functional accounting oversight and guidance.
- Management of all tax compliance, reporting, and filing.
- Support the U.S.-wide US-ICAAP and all U.S. regulatory reporting; participate as the U.S.-based Group Finance Lead from a financial and technological perspective to ensure efficient and accurate “upstream” reporting to U.S. regulatory authorities (including delegated tasks).
- Identify and escalate regulatory requirements as needed and assist regulatory authorities to ensure that the Group remains up to date.
- Monitoring periodic reports to ensure they are submitted on time to regulatory authorities and U.S. management, including regulatory risk-based reports.
- Monitoring third-party settlement processes to ensure that they accurately report credit, cash, and capital to the finance function and business units.
Regional, U.S., and Global Responsibilities
- As the chief financial officer in New York or TL, set the tone at the top and build relationships with business teams, including those in other locations.
- Reporting to the Head of New York Finance – U.S. and to senior members of the U.S. regional team.
- Monitoring business units with deferred entities, advising on “top-of-process” strategies, and utilizing U.S. tax credits to achieve tax benefits.
- Consideration and provision of additional support/advice for U.S.-specific financing arrangements entered into for U.S. transactions.
- Overseeing various projects from the perspective of regional U.S. finance, including stakeholder communication with the New York finance team.
- Work closely with the U.S.-based global financial platform teams to ensure that the end-to-end process runs smoothly.
- Monitoring of consolidated balance sheets and test items across the global finance function, supported by the New York Finance business where appropriate.
Key Competencies
- Certified accountant (CPA, ACCA, or similar equivalent) with additional experience and expertise in U.S. taxes, multi-jurisdictional financing, and regulations.
- Experience on senior finance and reporting teams at relevant companies, including experience managing mergers and integration activities.
- Technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP with a proven basic understanding of accrual accounting
