External Alpha Operational Risk Analyst (Career Returner Program)

Tasks

The role involves a comprehensive, in-depth analysis of all operational areas in alternative investments to identify potential risks that could adversely affect the business or reputation of Man and/or its funds. Specific tasks include:

• Conducting in-depth operational due diligence reviews of external managers in hedge funds and, to a lesser extent, in private markets.
• Participation in on-site and virtual meetings with professionals (C-suite) at third-party fund managers and service providers to assess operational infrastructure and controls.
• Self-initiated ad hoc analyses and workflows, as well as standard reports for internal committees and clients, highlighting key risks and mitigation strategies. Communication of audit findings both internally to External Alpha's risk team and externally to managers.
• Collaborate with global teams to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of exams and projects.
• Monitoring ongoing developments and changes in existing manager relationships, escalating concerns as necessary.
• Maintaining awareness of industry best practices, regulatory developments, and emerging operational risks.

Requirements

A successful candidate will demonstrate the following competencies:

• Experience in a control-oriented role such as operational due diligence, operations, finance, or product control. A background in an investment or risk management function is highly preferred.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey results to both internal and external audiences. The candidate will be expected to participate in due diligence meetings and ultimately lead them and present their findings to the team.
• Ability to work collaboratively with and as part of broader teams
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify and assess complex operational risks in meetings with key control professionals across all functions. The candidate will need the ability to form and articulate opinions on the effectiveness of controls, processes, and procedures, and to challenge where necessary.
