External Alpha Operational Risk Analyst

Tasks

The role involves conducting comprehensive analyses of operational areas in alternative investments to identify potential risks that could adversely affect the business or reputation of Man and/or its clients. Specific tasks include:

• Conducting due diligence reviews on investments internally and, to a lesser extent, on private markets.
• Participation in on-site and virtual meetings with sub-investment experts (C-suite) at third-party investment managers and service providers to assess operational risks.
• Preparation of due diligence working papers and formal reports for internal committees and clients, highlighting risks and recommended mitigation strategies.
• Collaborate with global team members to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of exams and projects.
• Maintaining ongoing relationships and adapting to changes in order to maintain relative value.

Requirements

A successful candidate should have the following skills:

• Experience in a control-oriented role, such as operational due diligence, operations, financial/risk product control, audit, compliance, or risk management. Familiarity with alternative investments, particularly hedge funds, is a strong advantage.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to clearly convey results to internal and external parties. The candidate should have the ability to interact with C-suite executives at third-party hedge fund managers.
• Strong analytical skills to identify and assess complex operational risks and formulate opinions on matters such as investment management structure, regulation and compliance, valuation, operational risk framework, controls/information security, and outsourcing agreements.
• A high degree of organization and personal responsibility to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
• A combination of detail and the ability to take a step back to provide the bigger picture and strategic perspective.
• Intellectual curiosity and a proactive approach to continuous learning and improvement.
• Professional integrity and commitment to comply with regulatory and ethical standards.
