FIG Analyst, Bank Ratings & Capital Advisory (RAC)

The position of FIG Analyst at Alantra in London involves analyzing bank balance sheets, evaluating credit ratings, and developing strategies to strengthen banks’ credit profiles. The analyst supports existing client accounts and new business initiatives and works closely with senior staff and clients.

Tasks

The role of the FIG Analyst, Bank Ratings & Capital Advisory (RAC) includes:
  • Support for existing (renewed) consulting contracts and new client business / Pitch materials
  • Analysis of credit rating agency methodologies (particularly S&P, Moody’s, and Fitch) and assessment of rating sensitivities and notching implications
  • Detailed analysis of bank balance sheets, including asset quality, capital, debt, funding, and liquidity metrics, within the framework of rating agencies
  • Modeling of capital and funding scenarios, including the impact on CET1, AT1, Tier 2, and MREL/TLAC positions under rating agency frameworks
  • Preparation of client materials, briefing notes, and analytical memos for internal and external use
  • Monitoring regulatory and credit rating agency developments (e.g., EBA, ECB, PRA) and assessing their impact on client ratings

Requirements

The candidate should meet the following requirements:
  • Comprehensive understanding of bank balance sheets, income statements, and their interrelationships, including asset risks, profitability, capital positioning, funding, and liquidity, as well as off-balance-sheet exposures
  • Strong understanding of regulatory capital metrics (CET1, Tier 1, total capital, leverage ratio, RWAs) and funding metrics (LCR, NSFR)
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical rigor
  • Clear and precise communication skills, suitable for senior-level client interactions

Qualifications and experience

  • 1–3 years of experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Initial or proven experience in analyzing bank balance sheets
  • Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and capital instruments
  • Ability to interpret and question rating methodology assumptions
  • Structured thinking and quantitative rigor
  • Professional judgment and discretion in handling sensitive information
  • A collaborative team player with strong personal integrity
  • Enjoyment of working in international teams
