Financial Crime Compliance Officer

Sygnum is seeking a Financial Crime Compliance Officer who has experience in the Swiss financial industry and knowledge of AML compliance and the associated legal and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate should have at least 3 years of experience as a compliance officer or in a similar position and have in-depth knowledge of AML, KYC, and regulatory matters.

Tasks

  • Assess and approve client documentation in the client onboarding process with a focus on AML regulations, especially for high-risk clients and complex corporate structures.
  • Advising on Swiss CDDBO, AML, and KYC requirements within the team and for client-facing employees.
  • Further development of the bank's AML framework with a focus on details and exploration of opportunities for improvement.
  • Supporting the entire AML team and Sygnum colleagues in compliance and regulatory matters in day-to-day business and strategic initiatives.
  • Identification of opportunities for efficiency and effectiveness in AML-related processes within the bank.
  • Developing and conducting training courses for employees on AML-related laws and regulations as well as industry practices, and ensuring the corresponding transfer of knowledge.
  • Champion and ownership of AML solutions implemented within the company, and development into a subject matter expert for related initiatives.

Requirements

  • Compliance experience in the Swiss financial services industry.
  • Knowledge of Swiss AML compliance and crypto AML compliance, as well as the associated legal and regulatory landscape.
  • Curiosity about technology (cryptocurrency/blockchain)/ICOs and related compliance and regulatory issues.
  • Willingness to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, and interdisciplinary environment.
  • Striving for impact and effectively establishing an innovative financial institution.
  • Team player qualities and ability to work independently and under pressure.

Our ideal candidate

  • Degree in law, finance/economics, business administration/management, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in the banking industry as an in-house compliance officer or in an audit/consulting firm providing services to Swiss regulated financial intermediaries.
  • Extensive knowledge of (Swiss) AML, AMLO, AMLD-FINMA, CDBC20.
  • Functional knowledge of relevant legal and regulatory areas, e.g., client onboarding, KYC, CDBC20 standards, AML/CFT, sanctions, taxes, CRS & FATCA, and regulatory matters.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in evaluating the source of wealth and structures of distributed ledger technology (DLT) companies.
  • Experience with background screening tools.
  • Problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and mental flexibility to find pragmatic solutions that support the business with innovative products and business models.
  • Team player qualities and the ability to create a positive team atmosphere and fit into a collaborative and flat hierarchy culture.
  • Goal- and results-oriented, able to work independently with minimal guidance and provide hands-on practical solutions.
