Financial Crime Investigator

The Financial Crime Investigator is responsible for conducting investigations into anomalous transactions and identifying money laundering and terrorist financing risks. The position is part of the Financial Crime Investigations team and requires experience in money laundering investigations and transaction monitoring.

Financial Crime Investigator

Tasks

  • Conduct effective and timely investigations of assigned cases in accordance with agreed standard reporting requirements and service levels
  • Investigation of anomalous activity reports from various parts of the bank and other HSBC entities
  • Investigation and reporting on production orders
  • Perform an initial high level assessment upon receipt of a new investigation to identify potential suspicious activity reports (SAR)
  • Writing a high-quality investigation narrative and recording the case history with supporting findings in a digital case file
  • Escalation of cases upon first reliable indication of SAR-related facts
  • Ensuring that suspicious activities are reported to the relevant authorities
  • Ensuring that decisions on notifications to the authorities are properly justified and documented
  • Provision of guidelines for internal business units as required
  • Creation of accurate and timely management information

Requirements

  • Experience in money laundering investigations, including transaction monitoring
  • Familiarity with transaction monitoring and related case management systems
  • Experience in identifying activities that indicate money laundering (ML) or terrorist financing (FT)
  • Experience in conducting research/analysis of client activity with the ability to draw conclusions from noted behavior
  • Experience in preparing reports to identify ML/CFT risks and/or SAR reporting
  • Very good written and spoken communication skills
  • Creativity and ability to think independently and take action to improve own performance
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Managerial experience in a knowledge-based context
