FO Risk COO

The position of FO Risk COO at Nomura in London involves managing and coordinating risk management activities, including monitoring risks, implementing governance structures, and improving processes. The incumbent supports the COO in leading the front office risk team and works closely with various departments to identify and mitigate risks.

Tasks

- Act as the key liaison between Front Office Risk and senior management in the areas of trading, sales, and control. - Support the COO in managing the operational structure, governance, and strategic agenda of the Front Office Risk team. - Lead risk governance forums, including preparing materials for risk committees, updates for senior management, and regulatory engagements. - Ensure that internal and external regulatory requirements are met through close collaboration with the compliance, legal, and audit teams. - Monitor the implementation of policies, controls, and escalation frameworks to ensure compliance with Nomura's risk profile.

Risk monitoring and control

- Support the monitoring and reporting of key risk metrics, stress test results, and portfolio exposures to ensure timely risk identification and mitigation. - Coordinate risk reviews, risk factor analyses, and scenario calibrations in collaboration with the Market Risk and Quantitative Risk teams. - Improve stress testing and risk factor sensitivity analysis to provide actionable insights for trading desks. - Manage risk escalation frameworks, including limits, policies, and escalation processes, and provide guidance on risk mitigation strategies.

Operational efficiency and process improvement

- Identify and drive process automation and technology enhancements to improve risk data aggregation, reporting, and decision-making. - Work closely with IT and data teams to improve risk systems, streamline workflows, and enhance risk analysis capabilities. - Optimize front office risk operations by standardizing procedures and improving efficiency in reporting and governance processes.

Strategic initiatives and change management

- Lead and execute strategic projects that enhance the effectiveness of the front office risk function, such as regulatory initiatives, stress test enhancements, and collateral risk framework enhancements. - Collaborate with global teams across all Nomura regions (US, EMEA, APAC, Japan) to align risk management frameworks and best practices. - Manage cross-project initiatives related to capital optimization, risk model enhancements, and regulatory compliance. - Collaborate with front office and risk technology teams to implement next-generation risk management tools. - Collaborate with front office and risk management teams to identify areas for improvement in risk monitoring, reporting, and control.

Leadership and stakeholder management

- Provide leadership and guidance to junior risk managers, business analysts, and project managers within the COO function. - Build strong relationships with the trading, structuring, prime brokerage, and treasury teams to align risk strategies with business objectives. - Represent the Front Office Risk COO in key forums, meetings, and regulatory discussions.
