Head of Non-Financial Risk Control, Europe

The Head of Non-Financial Risk Control Europe at Julius Baer is responsible for monitoring non-financial risks across all European units and is tasked with fostering a strong risk culture. The role involves leading NFRC teams, implementing global frameworks, and ensuring compliance with Group policies and European regulatory requirements.

Tasks and responsibilities

The role of Head of Non-Financial Risk Control Europe includes the following responsibilities:
  • Serve as Head of Non-Financial Risk Control for Europe and locally for Luxembourg, with full managerial responsibility for all NFRC employees in Luxembourg and European branches.
  • Lead the European implementation of global frameworks, including the Internal Control Framework (ICF), Operational Risk Framework, Third-Party Risk Management (TPRM) Framework, Technology Risk Framework, and resilience requirements.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to local risk owners and senior stakeholders to ensure that risks are consistently identified, assessed, monitored, and managed in accordance with the Group’s risk policy and defined risk profile.
  • Ensure compliance with group policies and relevant European regulatory requirements to facilitate efficient and transparent cooperation with regulatory authorities.
  • Establish clear and timely escalation procedures for exposures that fall outside the risk profile, and ensure that remediation plans are credible, sustainable, and consistent with group standards.

Operational Responsibilities

Operational responsibilities include:
  • Monitoring of Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and transparent reporting to governance bodies.
  • Develop pragmatic and proportionate risk mitigation recommendations for identified issues, in close collaboration with European CROs and business partners, to ensure that corrective actions are implemented effectively and within agreed timeframes.
  • Manage the network of Risk Subject Matter Expert (SME) contacts across European business units to gather and share relevant risk intelligence and emerging issues.

Leadership

The responsibilities of leadership include:
  • Building and maintaining a skilled NFRC workforce with standardized skills and consistent expectations across European locations.
  • Ensure succession planning and strategic human resources management, including the appropriate use of the NFRC Service Center in India for scalable and repeatable tasks.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, risk awareness, and transparent challenge across all NFRC teams.

Your profile

Your qualifications include:
  • A degree in finance, risk management, business administration, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in risk management, with significant exposure to non-financial risks.
  • Proven leadership experience in a senior risk management role.
  • Strong knowledge of RCSA methods, control testing, incident management, and third-party risk monitoring.
