Head of Investment Risk, Discretionary

Tasks

The Discretionary Risk Management department enhances the investment management process through proactive, world-class risk monitoring. We are seeking an experienced leader who combines emotional intelligence, risk expertise, and excellent communication skills to lead this high-performing team. Key responsibilities include:

• Strategic leadership of the Discretionary Risk Management team, fostering a culture of excellence and high performance
• Cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders, including portfolio managers, senior management, clients, and regulatory authorities
• Regular monitoring and assessment of risks across all funds and portfolios managed by Discretionary
• Chairing the Discretionary Risk Committee, setting the risk agenda, and implementing measures
• Promoting continuous improvements in risk management methods, technology, and metrics
• Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the investment management styles used in Discretionary and across the entire Man Group
• Development, implementation, and stress testing of strategic risk projects from conception through completion
• Continuation and implementation of the Man Group risk management framework across all business units

Requirements

The requirements for this position include:

• A graduate degree in a relevant field (e.g., finance, mathematics, economics, or a related field)
• At least 10 years of experience in risk management at banks or other financial institutions
• Proven experience in discretionary risk management (required)
• Strong background in financial markets with in-depth knowledge of credit instruments and markets (essential)
• Knowledge of AI/machine learning applications and Python programming
• Proven experience in product development and mentoring (required)
• Excellent financial and analytical skills
• Comprehensive understanding of VaR modeling, stress testing, and other risk management techniques
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey complex risk concepts to various audiences
