Head of Investment Risk, Discretionary

Man Group is seeking a "Head of Investment Risk, Discretionary" in London to lead an experienced risk management team while supporting investment processes with their quantitative expertise. The ideal candidate should have at least 10 years of experience in risk management and a strong background in finance, mathematics, or a related field.

Tasks

The Discretionary Risk Management department enhances the investment process through proactive, forward-looking risk monitoring. We are seeking an experienced risk manager/quantitative analyst/executive to lead this high-performing team, providing investment leadership and exceptional quantitative skills to guide or support the investment process, as well as outstanding communication skills. Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategic leadership of the Discretionary Risk Management team, fostering a culture of excellence and high performance
  • Cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders, including portfolio managers, senior management, clients, and regulatory authorities
  • Assuming responsibility for monitoring and assessing risks in all funds and portfolios managed by Discretionary
  • Chairing the Discretionary Risk Committee, setting the agenda, and promoting actionable outcomes
  • Promoting continuous improvement in risk management methods, frameworks, and tools
  • Developing and maintaining a deep understanding of the investment styles used in Discretionary and across the broader Man Group
  • Design, delivery, and oversight of strategic risk projects from conception through completion
  • Further development and integration of the risk management framework across all investment functions
  • Ensuring that risk issues are resolved in a timely manner, prioritizing them based on materiality, significance, and potential impact

Requirements

  • A graduate degree in a relevant field (e.g., finance, mathematics, economics, or a related field)
  • At least 10 years of experience in risk management at credit institutions and/or sales organizations
  • A proven track record of success in discretionary (and/or systematic) investments
  • Strong credit-focused training with in-depth knowledge of credit instruments and markets (essential)
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, lead, and develop individuals and teams (essential)
  • Proven experience in leadership, team development, and mentoring (required)
  • Exceptional financial and analytical skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of VaR, modeling, stress testing, and other risk management techniques
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex risk concepts to a variety of audiences
