Head of Investment Risk, Discretionary

Man Group is seeking a "Head of Investment Risk, Discretionary" in London to lead the discretionary risk management team and oversee the strategic direction and monitoring of risks in the investment portfolios. The ideal candidate has at least 10 years of experience in investment risk management and strong leadership skills.

Tasks

  • Strategic leadership of the Discretionary Risk Management team, fostering a culture of excellence and high performance
  • Cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders, including portfolio managers, senior management, clients, and regulatory authorities
  • Monitoring and assessing risks across all funds and accounts managed by Discretionary
  • Chairing the Discretionary Risk Committee, setting the agenda, and implementing measures
  • Promoting continuous improvements in risk management methodologies, frameworks, and tools
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the investment strategies used in Discretionary and across the entire Man Group
  • Planning, execution, and implementation of strategic risk projects from conception to completion
  • Integration of the risk management framework into all business functions
  • Ensuring that risk issues are resolved in a timely manner, prioritizing them based on materiality, significance, and potential impact

Requirements

  • A graduate degree in a relevant field (e.g., finance, mathematics, economics, or a related field)
  • At least 10 years of experience in investment risk management at buy-side and/or sell-side institutions
  • A proven track record in discretionary (ideally investment) management
  • Strong credit-focused training with in-depth knowledge of credit instruments and markets (essential)
  • Knowledge of derivatives is a significant advantage; experience with VaR and/or P&L programming
  • Proven experience in leadership, team development, and mentoring (required)
  • Excellent financial and analytical skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of VaR modeling, stress testing, and other risk management techniques
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex risk concepts to a variety of audiences
