Head of Liquidity Stress Modeling (Executive Director)
Nomura is seeking an Executive Director in London to serve as Head of Liquidity Stress Modeling, responsible for developing liquidity risk models and leading an international team. The position requires expertise in Python, SQL, and R, as well as experience in the regulatory environment and stakeholder communication.

Department Overview
- Treasury liquidity risks related to Nomura’s global capital-based business, including risk management, liquidity management, and internal requirements.
Core Responsibilities
- Evaluate the site's ability to meet the demands of clients, supervisors, investors, and internal requesters
Strategy, Governance, and Methodology
- Develop robust methodologies for modeling the liquidity of risk scenarios, including stress scenarios.
- Develop and review a list of all liquidity and credit risk exposures
- Develop stress testing and reporting models—ensuring they are fit for purpose
- Ensure alignment with liquid capital management strategies and best practices
Model Development & Governance
- Develop and maintain liquidity risk models and procedures for the model risk management framework
- Develop robust models for the development, validation, and back-testing of complex stress models across all asset classes
- Strengthen document compliance and ensure consistent application across markets
- Model development, including design, build, validation, model implementation, model development reviews, monitoring, and governance cycles
- Assess the liquidity position for new products and markets
Regulatory and Stakeholder Management
- Primary local team leader for regulatory initiatives and LFAR requests
- Liaise with central and peripheral liquidity risk management teams
- Prepare materials for the Board, Group Committee, Supervisors, Board Committee, SIFRI, SSRI, and ILR firms
- Participate in the Regulations and Risk Working Groups, the Regulators, Audit, and IT Forum
Team Leadership
- Leading a team of 4 specialists based in London, New York, and London
- Design and implement a work plan to foster an environment that encourages collaboration among high-performing, multicultural, and diverse teams
- Ensure ongoing communication and effective coordination across all levels and locations
- Engage employees in a variety of learning opportunities and training to develop their skills
- Leverages cross-regional collaboration and innovation to drive growth
Business Partnership
- Work closely with various stakeholder functions across the firm
- Provide strategic advice and support to senior management
- Collaborate with other business units to deliver innovative solutions for clients
- Promote a positive culture of teamwork and professional development
Requirements
- Additional skills in model development, validation, governance, back-testing, statistical modeling, and scenario analysis using large, complex datasets
- Expert user of programming languages (Python, SQL, R) and visualization/prototyping platforms (Palisades, Power BI, etc.)
- A passion for clean, scalable, and maintainable technical solutions that minimize non-value-added activities while delivering outstanding solutions to complex challenges
- A confident communicator who can clearly explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences (both technical and non-technical) at the organizational level, building trust across teams while earning respect
- Strong ability to manage errors, with meticulous attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to deliver under pressure while meeting tight regulatory and management deadlines
- Advanced skills in model development, validation, governance, back-testing, statistical modeling, and scenario analysis using large, complex datasets
