Head of Risk, Sygnum Europe (Liechtenstein)

The Head of Risk is responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring Sygnum Europe's risk management framework to identify, assess and mitigate financial, operational and regulatory risks. The incumbent is a member of the Executive Board of Sygnum Europe and reports directly to the CEO.

About the role

The Head of Risk is responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring Sygnum Europe's risk management framework to ensure that all financial, operational, technological and regulatory risks are effectively identified, assessed, monitored and mitigated. This role is critical to ensuring the resilience of the organization, compliance with Liechtenstein and EU regulations (MCAR, DORA etc.) and maintaining the confidence of our clients, counterparties and regulators. The Head of Risk is a member of the Executive Board of Sygnum Europe and reports to the CEO of Sygnum Europe.

Your main tasks:

  • Risk strategy & framework
    • Develop a robust risk management framework, including risk appetite for Sygnum Europe - encompassing financial and operational risks, as well as stress testing, modeling and analytics, etc.
    • Implementation of risk management tools to promote risk management practices in accordance with the risk framework.
    • Helping to create a highly collaborative and proactive risk function capable of navigating the increasingly complex business and regulatory environment.
    • Establish and manage (IT) information and security strategy, policies and controls to protect systems, data and communications against cyber threats and IT risks.
  • Risk identification, assessment & monitoring
    • Identification, assessment, monitoring and mitigation of financial and operational risks, including outsourcing arrangements and dependencies on third-party providers.
    • Conducting stress tests, scenario analyses and risk assessments for new products and services.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Governance
    • Ensuring compliance with EU regulations (MCAR, DORA, etc.) and relevant local supervisory requirements.
    • Preparation and presentation of regular risk reports and findings for senior management and the Executive Board as well as for the Group Risk function.
  • Leadership & collaboration
    • Managing and developing the risk function, ensuring adequate resources and expertise.
    • Promote a culture of informed risk management and strong risk governance through training, communication and promotion of the risk framework.
    • Advising local business units on risk management issues.

Ideal candidate:

  • Degree in economics (university or doctorate) with specialization in finance, economics, law, risk management or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in risk management within financial services; experience with crypto/digital assets is highly desirable.
  • Successful experience in developing and leading risk frameworks, reporting and governance.
  • Professional experience in IT audit, IT security, cyber risks and/or (IT) risk frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements in Liechtenstein and Europe (MCAR, DORA etc.) with the ability to navigate complex regulatory landscapes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid Liechtenstein work permit and availability to work at least 3 days per week on site.
