Tasks
- Work with various business partners to facilitate the completion of risk assessments and targeted operational risk assessment projects.
- Supporting key risk owners and key risk coordinators in identifying key risks and mitigating controls in their business areas.
- Perform assessments to identify key risks and mitigating controls in daily operations and projects, design and execute tests to identify potential control weaknesses, and prepare appropriate documentation (worksheets) on the assessments performed.
- Work with business units to create action plans to address gaps in identified mitigating actions.
- Investigate and assess the cause of losses/gains and assist business partners in remediating control deficiencies that have occurred as a result of such events.
- Review new product proposals to ensure they are supported by internal policies, suitability processes, documentation and in compliance with laws and regulations. Provide feedback and comments in preparation for the Product Committee, if required.
- Test self-assessments/controls to identify potential control weaknesses in departments and functions and other operational areas and make recommendations for changes to minimize these weaknesses.
- Third party support throughout the assessment process and ongoing monitoring of outstanding issues requiring follow up and resolution.
- Conducting regulatory research, disseminating regulatory information and providing opinions and advice on regulatory matters.
- Review policies, procedures and practices to ensure compliance with laws and regulations and implement any necessary changes.
- Monitoring the completion of all assigned business partner activities to ensure that agreed changes have been made to address identified control weaknesses.
- Preparation of reports on assessments carried out and materials for committees.
- Creation of key risk indicators and support for business units in the development of indicators.
- Carrying out tasks and responsibilities specific to the functions and activities of the department.
- Compliance with BSA/AML laws, rules, regulations and the Bank's BSA/AML policies and procedures as part of the performance evaluation of all employees.
Requirements
- Degree in business administration or a related field, equivalent work experience will be considered.
- At least 2 years of experience in a bank and/or brokerage firm specializing in operational risk, audit or risk assessment.
- Proven ability to develop, document and maintain operational policies and procedures, including the design and documentation of detailed process flows and the development of operational performance and quality metrics standards and reports.
- Experience in conducting assessments, audits, reviews and/or tests in business, commercial and/or operational areas/processes.
- Experience with Excel, Access and/or other similar tools, development and maintenance of various analysis and reporting tools.
- Knowledge of tools used for data science and other statistical analysis such as SAS, Tableau, ACL, R or Python (desirable).
- Knowledge of US banking and brokerage regulations, Sarbanes-Oxley and COSO methodology.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Word.
- Strong communication skills.
- Fluent in English.
