Investment Accounting Associate

The job as a member of the Investment Accounting Team involves providing accounting and reporting services to clients, including preparing monthly accounting packages and quarterly footnote calendars. The employee will be responsible for monitoring cash balances, transactions, and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.

About this role

The Investment Accounting Group provides accounting and reporting services to our clients. We provide services including the preparation of monthly accounting packages and quarterly footnote schedules, reconciliation of cash and positions, and calculation of portfolio holdings. The Investment Accounting team will be responsible for ensuring accurate cash balances, transactions, and timely resolution of differences to ensure efficient and accurate processes for our clients.

Main tasks

  • Daily activities such as daily/weekly/monthly accounting and portfolio data maintenance
  • Delivery of high-quality customer deliveries for both internal and external customers and internal BlackRock partners
  • Preparation and/or review of reconciliations between BlackRock, asset managers, and custodian banks. This includes researching discrepancies and resolving them promptly and accurately.
  • Ongoing maintenance of existing accounts to reflect net assets, market data, and accounting events/settlements
  • Collaborate with external service providers, internal team members, and other BlackRock groups to resolve identified issues
  • Their role is to provide support for special projects and initiatives aimed at improving the range of services offered.

Required skills

  • The ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects without losing sight of the overall goals
  • 1-5 years of professional experience
  • Strong decision-making skills to make well-considered decisions on a daily basis and the ability to focus on the information provided and obtain further support/clarification where necessary
  • Multitasking and effective prioritization of tasks
  • Initiative to enforce and act
  • Multitasking, balancing multiple projects and deadlines
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, evolving company
  • Strong understanding of derivative products
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and interested in new applications

Preferred qualifications

  • A four-year degree in finance, accounting, information technology, or a related field
  • Understanding of upstream processes that affect reconciliation and ability to correlate the impact of changes
  • Flexible and open to new challenges, able to work effectively and efficiently on multiple projects simultaneously in a demanding and fast-paced environment, while maintaining the highest standards and attention to detail.
