IT Internal Controls Specialist I
The IT Internal Controls Specialist I supports the Operational Risk and Internal Controls department in maintaining regulatory compliance through risk assessments and control tests. This full-time hybrid position in Florida requires at least two years of experience in the banking or broker-dealer industry, as well as knowledge of U.S. banking regulations and analytical tools.
Description
Provide specialized support to the Operational Risk and Internal Controls department in maintaining control and regulatory compliance during regulatory examinations and audits.
Tasks
- Work with various business partners to facilitate the completion of assessments and targeted operational risk assessment projects.
- Assisting the Principal Risk Owners and Principal Risk Coordinators in identifying key risks and mitigating controls within their business units.
- Conduct assessments focused on identifying key risks and mitigating controls in day-to-day operations and projects, as well as designing and executing tests to identify potential control weaknesses, and preparing appropriate documentation regarding any necessary corrective actions based on the assessment results.
- Working with business units on day-to-day activities and projects, as gaps in the mitigation measures were identified.
- Complies with all post-close findings and errors, and uses the tools system to monitor control issues such as re-plans and day-to-day operations.
- Test self-assessments and controls to identify gaps in mitigating controls
- Assist business partners in addressing control weaknesses and implementing corrective actions.
- Review proposals for new product controls to ensure they are supported by findings and to ensure compliance during the pre-launch phase of new products.
- Test self-assessments and controls to identify potential control weaknesses in departments, functions, and other business units.
- Ongoing monitoring of outcome issues resulting from the evaluation of findings and development plans, and revising plans as needed.
- Analyze, design, document, and maintain the control monitoring plan and test plan.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Risk, Legal, IT) to develop effective controls and mitigate risks.
- Maintain and optimize existing IT control frameworks based on industry standards.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in business or a related field is preferred; equivalent work experience will be considered.
- At least 2 years of experience in bank and/or broker-dealer operations. Risk assessment roles.
- Proven ability to develop, document, and maintain an operational performance manual. Experience conducting assessments, reviews, audits, and/or testing.
- Experience working with Excel, Access, and/or other similar analytical systems, and building dashboards.
- Knowledge of tools used in data science and other statistical analyses (Preferred)
- Knowledge of U.S. banking and broker-dealer regulations, the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, and COSO methodology.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel, R, or Python.
- Strong communication skills.
- Fluency in English.
- Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese is preferred.
