Lead Engineer - Market Data
The job posting seeks a Lead Engineer for the "Real-time Market Data" team at Man Group in London, who will lead a team of six engineers and set the team’s technical direction. The Lead Engineer should have experience in developing large-scale, real-time market data platforms and possess skills in team leadership, stakeholder communication, and the development of AI-powered tools.
Tasks
- Leading a team of six high-performing engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Setting the team’s strategic direction, defining the technical roadmap, and aligning it with the broader goals of data engineering and the company
- As a hands-on engineer, go straight to the code examples, technical design, and implementation examples
- Conducting commercial and technical discussions with external data providers, managing relationships, and ensuring the company’s data needs are met
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders from systematic trading, discretionary research, and technology to translate requirements into successful deliverables
- Promoting the adoption of AI-powered development tools within the team to accelerate delivery and boost engineering productivity
- Responsibility for the operational excellence of a multi-petabyte, low-latency market data platform that processes billions of data points daily
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional experience in software development
- Experience with real-time market data feeds
- Experience in executing and delivering complex projects of exceptionally high quality
- In-depth knowledge of one or more relevant technologies such as kdb+, KDB, or Kafka
- Expertise in large-scale distributed systems
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Experience with performance optimization and large data processing
- Ability to translate stakeholder requirements into successful outcomes
- Experience with agile engineering – willingness and ability to work effectively with AI-powered development tools in larger teams
- Strong academic background and a degree with a high mathematical and computer science content, e.g., computer science, mathematics, engineering, or physics
