Lead, MS SQL DBA

Tasks

The successful candidate will be responsible for a high-caliber team of DBAs tasked with supporting Northern Trust's existing project development, engineering efforts, and production health/stability. Responsibilities include:

• Monitoring the performance of the existing database infrastructure
• Work on problem solving, root cause analysis, and performance optimization
• Proactively engage with critical applications and managed services teams to address infrastructure issues and prevent potential outages
• Creation and planning of maintenance work
• Provision of scripts in the environment
• Proactive monitoring of the environment and problem solving
• Focus on production stability and resilience

Requirements

The requirements for this position are:

• Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server administration
• Technical skills in MS SQL Server 2012 to 2022, including system installation and upgrade, backup and recovery, database migration, release management, troubleshooting, performance optimization, working with developers and third-party products
• Familiarity with the installation and support of specific functions such as Integration Services, Reporting Services, and Analysis Services
• Experience with managing third-party options
• Scripting capabilities for automating database tasks
• Ability to conduct thorough research and independently handle audit and regulatory inquiries
• Experience with agile project management processes
• Systematic approach to identifying problems and pursuing solutions
• Experience with MS SQL enterprise monitoring tools
• Experience with SQL Server AlwaysOn

Qualifications

The qualifications for this position are:

• At least 10-15 years of experience in managing medium to large databases in complex enterprise environments
• Strong experience with SQL Server
• Experience with SQL Server AlwaysOn in large database clusters
• Experience with Always On, SQL Server Mirroring, SQL Server Replication
• Database experience from working in engineering or project implementation teams
• BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• College or technical degree is a plus
• Experience in the financial industry is a plus
• Exposure to other database management platforms is a plus
