Lead, MS SQL DBA

Job description

This position is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator who can immediately add value to Northern Trust's Database Administration team. The successful candidate should have a passion for database administration and a desire to be at the forefront of new database technologies and implement potential solutions.

Tasks and requirements

The tasks and requirements include:

• Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server administration
• Technical skills in MS SQL Server 2012 to 2022, including system installation and upgrade, backup and restore, database migration, release management, troubleshooting, performance optimization, collaboration with developers and third-party vendors
• Experience with managing Microsoft SQL Server failover clustering, Always On, availability groups, replication, and database mirroring
• Knowledge of installations and support for specific functions such as Integration Services, Reporting Services, and Analysis Services
• Experience with managing third-party applications and good knowledge of Windows
• Scripting capabilities for automating database jobs, such as monitoring, alerting, and statistics collection
• Ability to thoroughly research and independently handle audit and regulatory inquiries
• Experience working with a senior project manager on projects within project deadlines
• Methodical and precise approach to tasks, bringing projects to a successful conclusion
• Systematic approach to identifying problems and pursuing solutions
• Ability to focus on areas of expertise and suggest possible solutions

Qualifications

The qualifications include:

• At least 10-15 years of experience designing medium to large databases in complex enterprise environments
• Powerful scripting and automation capabilities with PowerShell
• Experience with SQL Server AlwaysOn on large database clusters
• Experience with Azure SQL Database and SQL Server implementations
• 7-10 years of experience in database administration with Microsoft products
• Knowledge of other database management platforms is an advantage
