Lead, Network Engineer

As a Lead Network Engineer at Northern Trust, you will be responsible for leading network engineering activities, including defining standards, managing the technical lifecycle of products and services and ensuring a smooth transition to Network Operations. You will be working in a global enterprise environment with high service and availability requirements.

Job description: Lead, Network Engineer

Tasks

  • Defining and documenting network engineering standards
  • Creation of low-level design documents to fulfill high-level design requirements
  • Creation of detailed implementation plans for all engineering-related activities
  • Procurement activities for the development and delivery of new services (projects)
  • Ensuring a smooth transition/handover to operations in accordance with the agreed Operational Acceptance Process
  • Management of the technical lifecycle for all network and communication services
  • Support architecture in the creation and maintenance of a delivery schedule for network engineers
  • Support of the architecture in coupling activities for the creation of high-level design
  • Supporting the architecture in understanding proof-of-concept activities
  • Ensure capabilities are up to date to deliver change and provide a high level of support
  • Provision of escalation support for operations in the event of complex troubleshooting of major incidents
  • Provide on-call escalation support (on a rotational basis) and work extended hours when required

Requirements

Core skills & experience

  • At least 8 years of experience with network solutions in a global enterprise environment (5,000-50,000 users) with traditional data centers and cloud
  • Experience with network engineering and building resilient and scalable network solutions, ideally in financial or investment banking
  • Understanding of network architectures, global financial services models and regional characteristics
  • Familiarity with various testing tools, network technologies and techniques to accurately troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues

Technical skills & experience

  • Expert knowledge and experience in several of the following areas:
    • Network routing, switching and security
    • Cisco, Juniper - Routers & Switches
    • Checkpoint, Cisco ASA Firewalls
    • Cisco, Silver Peak SD-WAN
  • It is advantageous to have knowledge and experience in the following technology platforms:
    • .NET / Public Cloud
    • Azure Sentinel

Technical certification

  • You have the following certification or demonstrable professional experience:
    • CCNA, CCNA Security, CCNP Routing & Switching
    • Check Point CCS
    • ID -WAN
    • ITIL Foundation or higher
  • It would be advantageous to have a certification or demonstrable professional experience:
    • CCIE Routing & Switching, or CCIE Data Center
