Lead Resilience Engineer

As a Lead Resilience Engineer at Northern Trust in Pune, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing the disaster recovery program, as well as ensuring business continuity. The role requires over 10 years of IT infrastructure experience with a focus on disaster recovery in cloud environments and adherence to relevant compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Disaster recovery planning, design, and implementation, including regular exercises to assess their impact on business continuity and response measures.
  • Business Continuity: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation plans to minimize the impact on business continuity.
  • Disaster Recovery Testing: Plan, execute, and validate disaster recovery exercises to verify the effectiveness of recovery plans and test recovery readiness at the local and national levels.
  • Coordination: Collaborate with IT, security, and related departments to ensure alignment between disaster recovery and security designs.
  • Documentation: Maintain up-to-date documentation of disaster recovery processes, procedures, and related operating procedures.
  • Roles and Responsibilities: Develop and provide training to employees on disaster recovery and business continuity practices to improve preparedness.
  • Tool Management: This applies to all solution activities, strategies, emerging technologies, and cybersecurity projects.

On-Premises & Data Center Resilience

  • Provide disaster recovery (DR) simulation for on-premises data centers, including storage migration (scale-out), scale-down, near-term upgrades, failovers, simulated breaches, failback, performance tuning, and strategic migration.
  • Drive power distribution and ownership strategies involving VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM) and Veeam.

Compliance, Audit & Assessment

  • Ensure third-party compliance with ISO 22301, NIST SP 800-34, and IT practices, as well as applicable industry regulations (PCI-DSS, HIPAA, ISO 27001, etc.).
  • Drive all DR-based exercise planning, documentation, time management, and reporting.
  • Regular audit preparation and self-assessments.
  • Facilitate governance frameworks related to disaster recovery, security, risk management, and incident management across a range of platforms.

Testing, Auditing, and Continuous Improvement

  • Plan and conduct full-scale (as well as tabletop, functional, and full-fault) periodic simulations of actual production disruptions at least twice a year.
  • Track and chart the results of each test, and monitor each release for ongoing fixes.
  • Implement cross-engineering initiatives and share best practices to strengthen in-house awareness of resilience.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, with at least 5 years focused on disaster recovery (business continuity, etc.) for digital businesses
  • Extensive expertise in designing and implementing disaster recovery (DR) solutions on at least two major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including commercial and private environments
  • Hands-on experience with tools such as Veeam, Azure Site Recovery, VMware (DRaaS), etc.
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining continuous service recovery, including immediate storage and other recovery readiness measures.
  • Professional certifications in enterprise disaster recovery planning (BCI, DRIE, or others) are preferred, or proven experience in the sector.
  • Role context for candidates in industries such as banking, fintech, healthcare, retail, and BFSI (financial services).
