Lead SW Eng - Core Java

Northern Trust is looking for a Lead Software Engineer (m/f/d) for Core Java who has experience in developing Spring Boot microservices, cloud platforms and CI/CD pipelines. The position involves the development, optimization and deployment of workflow driven applications in a scalable, secure and high performance environment.

Job Description

We are looking for a highly skilled Full Stack Java Engineer with experience in Front End and Back end (Spring Boot microservices development). The ideal candidate will have strong backend expertise with Java (JDK11+), hands-on experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred, AWS is a plus), and a good grasp of CI/CD pipelines and exposure to Kubernetes deployment. Front-end experience with React is a plus. This role will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing workflow-driven applications while ensuring scalability, security, and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable and secure microservices using Spring Boot.
  • Develop and optimize RESTful APIs and event-driven services.
  • Work with React.js for frontend development.
  • Deploy and manage applications in Azure (preferred) or AWS cloud environments.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps.
  • Ensure smooth deployment and orchestration of services using AKS(Kubernetes) and Docker.
  • Write efficient, reusable, and scalable code following best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement high-performance applications.
  • Perform code reviews, troubleshoot issues, and optimize system performance.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong Java programming skills (JDK11+) with hands-on experience in Spring Boot.
  • Spring boot - development of microservices using Reactive, gRPC, GraphQLs
  • Deep understanding of microservices architecture and best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with React is good to have.
  • Experience in Azure (preferred) or AWS, including cloud-native services and deployments.
  • Proficiency in building and managing CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).
  • Knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar) is a plus.
  • Proficiency with SQL and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
  • Strong understanding of authentication and authorization frameworks (OAu2h, JWT, OpenID Connect).
  • Familiarity with logging, monitoring, and observability tools (ELK Stack, Prometheus, Grafana).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in an agile development environment.
