The Linux Support Engineer is responsible for the stability, maintenance, and continuous improvement of technology systems within Man Group’s technology, data science, and transformation teams. The role involves providing first- and second-level support for Linux-based systems, monitoring systems, and collaborating with various teams.
Job Overview
The Linux Support Engineer is responsible for the stability, maintenance, and continuous improvement of technology systems within Man Group’s Technology, Data Science & Transformation teams. The engineer serves as a trusted technical partner who takes ownership of issues and drives them from start to finish, drives service quality, and works closely with quants, traders, operations officers, and engineering teams.Role Responsibilities
The role involves the following tasks:- Support & Operations: Provide first- and second-level support for Linux-based systems (CentOS/RHEL/Ubuntu) to ensure the timely resolution of incidents and service requests
- Monitor systems, anticipate and resolve issues before they affect users
- Address issues from their inception through to resolution and maintain clear communication with stakeholders
- Streamlining handoffs and personal interactions – scheduling, prioritizing, and setting clear expectations
- Infrastructure & Engineering: Creating and Configuring New Linux Virtual Machines with Terraform and Ansible
- Support test infrastructure and environments using Dragginz, Oracle, and other databases
- Manage and support a broad technology platform, including Oracle, Vault, Keycloak, GitLab, and related platforms
Stakeholder management
The Linux Support Engineer is expected to serve as a trusted partner for research users, quants, and traders, and to maintain technical relationships with software engineering and infrastructure delivery teams.- Refer complex issues to specialized teams to ensure continuity of service
- Collaborate with other technical support teams to develop and improve shared services
Service Improvement
The Linux Support Engineer is expected to promote ongoing service improvement initiatives to enhance quality and user satisfaction.- Make changes, improvements, and automations to minimize service disruptions and downtime
- Promote and adhere to best practices across Man's technology
- Ensure that all IT services meet the defined SLA targets
Key competencies
The Linux Support Engineer should have the following skills:- Extensive hands-on experience with Linux operating systems, preferably Ubuntu and/or CentOS
- Practical knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, and/or OpenStack
- Practical experience with Ansible, Terraform, and/or Arcadia
- Scripting and automation skills in Python and/or Bash
- Strong skills in troubleshooting, documentation, and test case analysis
- A desire to collaborate effectively with a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders
