Macro Strategist
The Macro Strategist at Julius Baer in Hong Kong is responsible for preparing macroeconomic and currency forecasts, as well as providing strategic client support in the area of wealth management. The position requires at least three years of experience in macroeconomics and the ability to communicate complex financial concepts to clients.
Tasks
- Contributing to the strengthening of team spirit and the promotion of a collaborative work environment
- Establishing and strengthening relationships with global and regional contacts across the bank's various business divisions
- Support for the day-to-day management of external research (macroeconomics and currencies)
- Customer Relationship Management
- Monitoring the content of the bank's customer communications (publications, newsletters, market overviews/reports, participation in customer meetings)
- A proactive approach in daily routines and reaching out to three key clients
- Collaboration with other ICS Global Investment Banking clients in presenting market research
- Proactive network of contacts (customers, colleagues, and service providers such as regional banking groups for managing standardized processes)
- Manage interactions and updates on a global scale based on macro themes and currencies to engage customers collaboratively
- Preparation, review, and editing of client-specific materials (such as client presentations, investment strategies, and opinions)
- Collaborate with the marketing and communications team to develop targeted content (email campaigns)/news updates and to participate in conferences
- Responsibility for the overall coordination, design, and management of customer engagement
- Presentations by senior management on asset classes in investment banking, public seminars, and the FND
- Understanding Cross-Border Rules and Regulations
- Responsibility for implementing standardized processes (e.g., liquidity management, credit management)
- Responsibility for managing market risks and compliance obligations
Requirements
- At least 3 years of professional experience required
- 3–5 years of experience in macroeconomics, economics, finance, or a related field
- Strong customer-focused mindset with a proven track record of building and maintaining customer relationships
- Proven ability to analyze and interpret complex macroeconomic data and assess its impact on the performance of asset classes
- Effective communication and presentation skills, including the ability to convey complex financial concepts to a diverse audience
- Knowledge of asset class markets, including stocks, bonds, commodities, and currencies
- A strategic and proactive approach to identifying and pursuing customer opportunities
- At least 3 to 5 years of experience as a macro strategist at a multinational bank is desirable
- In-depth understanding of ICS (fixed income, interest rates, FX, etc.)
- A 5-year track record of successfully managing market risks and compliance obligations
- A deep understanding of trends (e.g., leaps, gaming, careers)
