Managing Director, Cryptography

The Managing Director, Cryptography, will lead the company-wide cryptographic strategy, with a focus on key and certificate management, to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of sensitive data. The candidate should have deep technical expertise, strategic leadership skills, and strong influence over decentralized teams.

Job description: Managing Director, Cryptography

Tasks

  • Lead the enterprise cryptographic strategy, with a focus on key and certificate lifecycle management.
  • Define and enforce cryptographic standards, policies, and procedures in alignment with the Information Protection Standards.
  • Own governance of cryptographic algorithms, other solutions, and certificate authorities.
  • Manage the enterprise-wide inventory of cryptographic assets, including keys, certificates, and HSMs to optimize their use.
  • Collaborate with Information Security Officers (ISOs), infrastructure teams, and application owners to ensure secure implementation of cryptographic controls.
  • Establish and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) for cryptographic operations.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and support audit and regulation engagements.
  • Develop and maintain roadmaps, SOPs, and documentation for cryptographic operations.
  • Provide training and awareness programs for teams learning cryptographic materials.
  • Align with the regional execution leads for cryptographic incidents and exceptional events.

Requirements

Skills

  • Deep expertise in cryptographic technologies, including PKI, TLS, HSMs, and certificate lifecycle management.
  • Proven leadership in managing cross-functional cryptographic programs across complex, global environments.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, PCI DSS) and their cryptographic requirements.
  • Experience with cloud-native cryptographic services (e.g., AWS KMS, Azure Key Vault).
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence without direct authority.
  • Strong organization, with prioritization and project management skills.

Education and experience

  • Over 10 years of experience in information protection, with a focus on cryptography, specifically key and certificate management programs.
  • 5+ years of experience in leadership roles, including people and program management.
