Markets Regulatory Lawyer (Vice President)

Nomura is seeking an experienced Markets Regulatory Lawyer (Vice President) in London to provide legal and regulatory advice on derivatives, repo transactions, and securities lending. The candidate will assist with the implementation of regulatory frameworks, documentation, and collaboration with compliance and external legal counsel.

Role Overview

  • We are seeking an experienced regulatory lawyer to join the Markets Advisory team to provide regulatory advice on Global Markets products, including derivatives, repo, and the finance function—with a focus on CRR compliance—and (ii) to review escalations regarding trading venue agreements arising from Nomura's terms of business.
  • The successful candidate will play a key role in providing guidance on the interpretation of regulatory requirements affecting derivatives: expertise in repo and securities lending, sound legal judgment, and the ability to manage complex regulatory issues involving various stakeholders across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal and regulatory advice regarding derivatives, repo, and securities lending documentation;
  • Support the Masters Documentation Team with more complex questions regarding margin under different regulatory regimes;
  • Provide guidance on the application and implementation of regulatory frameworks, including U.S. SEC and CFTC rules;
  • Support the compliance and trade reporting functions with regard to the interpretation of MiFID and EMIR;
  • Provide legal support regarding capital and minimum capital requirements applicable to lending documentation;
  • Provide advice on clearing arrangements, including CCP documentation;
  • Draft, review, and negotiate documentation, including terms of business, and contribute to legal training and internal knowledge-sharing initiatives within the Documentation Legal Department;
  • Liaise with and manage outside counsel as appropriate.

Key Experience and Skills

  • A qualified solicitor, barrister, or equivalent legal professional with relevant post-qualification experience;
  • Knowledge and experience with derivatives, repo, and securities lending documentation;
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment;
  • A strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality;
