Middle Office Officer

The Middle Office Officer is responsible for processing and verifying payments, managing nostro accounts, and assisting with back-office tasks. The position requires strong analytical skills and experience in the banking industry, particularly in the areas of payment processing and regulatory reporting.

Job description

The main tasks include:
  • Payment Processing and Control: Processing of SEPA credit transfers (SCT / SCT Inst) and international SWIFT payments (MT103, MT202, pacs.008)
  • Verification of payment order compliance: IBAN, BIC, payee details, payee verification (VAP)
  • Identification and management of suspended payments, rejections, and returns (R-transactions)
  • Monitoring of urgent and high-value payments via SEPA or TARGET2 / T2
  • Application of sanctions screening procedures (EU, OFAC lists) within the regulatory export window

Nostro Account Management

The tasks include:
  • Daily monitoring of liquidity positions in nostro accounts with correspondent banks
  • Reconciliation of Nostro statements with posted transactions (MT940/MT950 reconciliation)
  • Identifying and resolving reconciliation errors within specified timeframes
  • Management of outstanding items and escalation to correspondent banks in the event of discrepancies
  • Optimization of intraday balances in coordination with Treasury

Back Office

The Middle Office - Payments team will also be involved in other back-office tasks, such as providing backup support for securities transactions, corporate actions, or tax operations.

Requirements

The requirements include:
  • At least a bachelor's degree, ideally in banking, law, finance, or a related field
  • Proven experience in a back-office or middle-office role, preferably with experience in cash and securities transactions
  • Basic understanding of and experience with transaction-based regulatory reporting, including CDOP, CESOP, Emmi Refit, and other relevant regulations
  • A background in back-office banking operations with experience in tax-related regulatory matters is preferred
  • Strong analytical skills to identify, analyze, and correct regulatory errors and discrepancies
  • Proven ability to drive process optimization initiatives and implement best practices
  • A high level of attention to detail to ensure the accuracy and compliance of regulatory reports and reconciliations
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with various teams and stakeholders
