OMI Advisory Analyst

The OMI Advisory Analyst works at the Oxford-Man Institute (OMI) and supports academic and investment-focused experts in identifying opportunities and challenges in global asset management. The role requires a strong understanding of financial markets, quantitative skills, and excellent communication skills to develop and edit research projects and white papers.

The role

The role of the OMI Advisory Analyst is to collaborate with our academic and investment-focused experts to identify key challenges and identify opportunities for sophisticated global asset allocation.

Tasks

As an OMI Advisory Analyst, you will:
  • Conduct research, development, and implementation of quantitative models and back-testing to support the research objectives of the OMI Advisory Team.
  • Help establish and develop the framework for research topics and ideas within the OMI Advisory Team by collaborating with researchers, academics, technology leaders, and investment firms to develop and validate quantitative research topics.
  • Contribute to the planning, writing, editing, and proofreading of white papers, primers, and thought leadership articles to ensure clarity, rigor, and transparency.
  • Help support the OMI Advisory Team and the Portfolio Management Team in developing innovative financial models to challenge existing models and deliver effective results.
  • Manage the compliance sign-off processes for all thought leadership content in accordance with internal procedures.
  • Familiarize yourself with the strategies and investment styles used at Man Group to understand the risk and performance of alternative investments.
  • Stay up to date on the latest developments in the financial industry and academic literature, and suggest ways in which OMI Advisory can support these efforts.
  • Conduct independent quantitative and financial research on new financial techniques and concepts, including identifying relevant and interesting topics and content.
  • Promote the investment strategy and culture of growth by participating in relevant internal investment team meetings, seminars, conferences, and other events.

Requirements

We are looking for a candidate with:
  • 4+ years of experience in a relevant field (markets, research, macro strategy, risk), although fewer years of experience may be considered for exceptional candidates.
  • A strong understanding of and knowledge about investment products and financial markets.
  • CFA/CMA/CFA/financial qualification (preferred).
  • Excellent financial, numerical, and analytical skills, including experience with quantitative analysis.
  • Knowledge of financial markets and instruments gained through direct experience and/or in-depth market expertise, including stocks, interest rates, credit, foreign exchange, volatility, and commodities, as well as an understanding of the underlying structure and behavior of these assets.
  • Ability to conduct quantitative/numerical research and data processing and to build back-tested models, including using Python.
  • Experience in writing, revising, and editing research papers (a plus, but not required).
  • A creative approach to problem-solving and generating ideas.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks based on a thorough understanding of business needs.
  • A strong team player with a desire to collaborate.
  • A curious thinker, self-starter, and/or team player.
